Friday, May 29th Intel, Psion calling truce on "netbook" lawsuit?
Intel and Psion are said today to have reached a settlement in their mutual lawsuits over the use of the term "netbook." The latter company is reported by BlogEEE as having agreed to drop its claims to the word and would let Dell and other PC makers use the word to describe their PCs without demanding royalties or threatening lawsuits. What, if anything, Intel would offer in compensation hasn't been detailed.
The agreement is described as not yet public and hasn't yet been confirmed by either of the involved companies. A final agreement is expected to help the PC category, however, as many companies have recently been pressed into describing the systems as "mini notebooks" or other similar terms despite "netbook" having entered common usage.

Psion originally manufactured the NetBook and later NetBook Pro as mini portables organized around typical online office tasks but stopped publicly selling its last models in 2003; it has rejected claims of an obsolete trademark by insisting that it continues to sell the NetBook Pro in small numbers directly to businesses.

Interim Management Statement

John Conoley, CEO of Psion PLC, will make the following statement at the AGM to
be held later today.
This is required by the UK Listing Authority's Disclosure and Transparency Rules
and covers the period from 1 January to 30 April 2009.

Trading Update
Continuing the trend of late 2008, order intake in the first four months of 2009
has been affected by the current economic downturn but the Board currently
expects that results for the first half will be in line with its expectations.
The Board will remain vigilant and will continue to take all necessary actions
to ensure that the Change Programme helps the business meet its goals of
increased operating profit and positive operating cash flow in 2009.

Change Programme
The Group's change programme remains on track. Cost reductions announced in
March of 2009 have been substantially completed, with material reductions in
costs implemented. The Group's goal of strengthening its third party
distribution arrangements has been aided by the agreement of an alliance with
Ingram Micro, the world's largest technology distributor.

The Group is scheduled to publish its interim results for the six months to 30
June 2009 on Thursday 12 August 2009.

Trading statement - inline with expectations although sales still weak. Cost cutting will continue to lead to positive cash flow.

Net cash tho - £41m.

Market cap £88m.

Net off the cash and you have a market cap of £47m

3.9p eps this year, 7.5p eps next year.

You're looking at nearly 100% growth there, on a debt-free business valued on an effective 2010 PE of 4 and paying 5.8% yield.

That sounds very cheap to me for a tech company that's likely to be an early mover in a new bull market imo.
