Psion Teklogix Teams with Ingram Micro to Bring More Value and Business Support to Channel Partners

New alliance with world's largest technology distributor extends Psion Teklogix' reach globally and provides its channel partners with an all-in-one source for high-performance, rugged mobile computing solutions

Tuesday March 31, 2009, 9:00 am EDT

CINCINNATI--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Making it easier for channel partners to source and sell its rugged wireless computing solutions, Psion Teklogix, Inc. (LSE: PON.L - News), a global provider of mobile computing solutions, today announced a distribution agreement with Ingram Micro Inc. (NYSE: IM - News), the world's largest technology distributor.

Under the terms of the new agreement, the Ingram Micro Data Capture/POS Division will support, market and resell Psion Teklogix' full line of rugged computing solutions which includes a broad range of mobile handheld and vehicle-mounted computers, RFID readers, scanners, voice and printer products, to channel partners throughout the Americas.

According to Psion Teklogix' president of worldwide sales, Ron Caines, the new distribution alliance promises greater operational efficiency, expands the company's reach and provides its current channel partners access to Ingram Micro's value-added service and financing programs, as well as its entire portfolio of IT products, solutions and services.

"Working with Ingram Micro, one of the industry's top channel partners for POS, AIDC and RFID technology solutions, accelerates our value proposition to channel partners and enables them to sell to and service their customers more effectively," said Caines. "In addition, Ingram Micro's broad-based portfolio allows our partners to source all their technology needs, which helps them to improve productivity and customer service."

Industry analyst firm VDC Research Group, Inc. is predicting continued growth for the automatic data capture industry in the coming years as businesses adopt the technology to increase productivity through greater mobility, speed and accuracy, improve inventory turns, enhance customer interaction and reduce costs.

"Demand for mobile, data capture and POS computing solutions is growing – especially within field-intensive verticals such as retail, entertainment, manufacturing and public sector," said Justin Scopaz, vice president and general manager, Ingram Micro Data Capture/POS Division. "We are pleased to offer and support Psion Teklogix' complete line of ruggedized mobile computing technology and expand upon our growing portfolio of vertically-focused IT products and solutions."

With all this suing and coutersuing over the 'netbook' name you would surely think that Dell would start to think that if Intel lost it could cost them and also with the name Psion very much on their minds that they dont have an industrial handheld offer in their armoury and since they are going to go for a push into the smartphone market could they not make use of Psion in terms of exploiting Psion in their business to business technology solutions network (and even for their own logistics of all products) and in the spreading costs of R&D with their smartphones where technology does converge.

You're taking a punt on the several Japanese legal cases not costing any more than what they've provisioned for it, otherwise that cashpile could be dented.

If you want an example of market manipulation then look no further than Psion. They are giving 8% dividend with cash pile of 41 millions. Can you find any investment that gives this return?

weatherman - I was down on PON until very recently but when I found out that Honeywell paid $720 million for Metrologic back in July 08 I started to realise consolidation may be the order of the day in the rugged handheld market and Psion looks just too cheap.

I think Psion should start products with the name Pentium.Intel havent used the name for a while so Psion if Intels logic is correct Psion should be able to start branding products with the Pentium name.

Has no one else realised the significance of the $1.2bn, yes billion, counter claim against Intel?

Intel now have a risk, however small, of a jury judgement, for this sum.

Say Intel's lawyers put the risk of a judgement against them as small as 10% then that's still an exposure of 10% of $1.2bn = £86m or for Psion some 60p/share.

Remember Psion do own the Netbook trademark. Google have appreciated this and stopped advertising Netbooks on their site.

It may make more sense for Intel to buy Psion (61p/share of net working capital and a going concern), eliminate the legal risk, and obtain the rights to the trademark....

All IMO....
