  24th UK Seaward Licensing round - Plectrum offered West of Shetland licences


The Directors of Plectrum Petroleum plc are pleased to confirm that in the 24th
Seaward Licensing Round, the Company has been offered a "Promote" licence over
Blocks 214/19 and 214/20, located west of the Shetland Islands. Subject to the
usual regulatory process and final award, Plectrum will have a 100% operated
interest in the licence.

Mike Whyatt, Plectrum Petroleum's Executive Chairman said:

"The offer of these Blocks represents our first exploration acreage in the UK
Continental Shelf and complements our existing offshore exploration interests in
Tunisia, Peru and Western Australia. All four exploration areas fit our strategy
of using innovative new technologies such as controlled source electromagnetic
imaging to better define exploration risk before drilling."

A promote licence has an initial two year phase, at the end of which Plectrum
will have undertaken sufficient studies to enable the Company to either convert
it into a traditional licence or return it to the Department for Trade and
Industry.
