RNS Number : 3885E Plantic Technologies Limited 26 September 2008 26 September 2008 Plantic Technologies Limited DuPont Packaging & Industrial Polymers and Plantic Extend Distribution Agreement to Include South America MELBOURNE, Australia and WILMINGTON, Delaware, USA - 26 September 2008 - DuPont Packaging and Industrial Polymers (P&IP) and Plantic Technologies Limited, manufacturer of starch-based polymers for packaging and other applications, today announced that DuPont P&IP marketing of Plantic's starch-based sheet materials will henceforward include South America, in addition to North America and Japan. The plans to incorporate South America follow DuPont P&IP and Plantic's announcement in September 2007 to collaborate in the development and sale of renewably sourced polymers made from Plantic® technology. Plans encompassed the co-development of renewably sourced resins and sheet materials for applications including cosmetics, personal care and packaging. It was also agreed DuPont P&IP would market and distribute Plantic's starch-based sheet materials in North America and injection moulding resins globally, excluding Australia and New Zealand. In April 2008, this agreement was extended to include Japan for starch-based sheet materials and now incorporates South America for these materials also. All products are marketed under the DuPont* Biomax® brand. "South America is a very important market for the DuPont* Biomax® suite of products and DuPont is ideally placed to provide Plantic with market development and distribution in this region", said Shanna Moore, DuPont P&IP global business director for sustainable packaging materials. "The extension of the DuPont P&IP distribution agreement with Plantic into South America complements the North American strategy by providing renewably sourced, functional polymers to our customers throughout all of the Americas." Brendan Morris, chief executive officer, Plantic Technologies Limited, commented, "The distribution of Plantic's rigid packaging products in South America enables Plantic to further benefit from DuPont P&IP's global sales and marketing resources and underlines the close relationship between the two companies." Plantic's novel polymer manufacturing technology is based on the use of high-amylose corn starch, a material derived from annual harvesting of specialised non-GM (hybrid) corn. The unique chemical and film-forming properties of this type of starch allow for development of a range of applications across conventional plastics markets. In addition to being renewably sourced, users can take advantage of excellent end-of-life properties such as biodegradability and compostability. Plantic has families of patents covering its technologies, formulations and applications. The Company's objective is to commercialise its plastic technologies across a broad range of applications, with a particular focus on the packaging industry. Plantic is listed on the London Stock Exchange (AIM) under the symbol 'PLNT'.
