That should read 'leaves incumbent shareholders'.

Buying PFC AFTER the restructuring could prove highly profitable. Remember if there's a D4E then the creditors before the D4E will become company shareholders after the D4E and they'll want the company to succeed to recompense them for loss of debt capital

If you have an IC logon then you can read the article here:

Is Petrofac a bargain or a value trap?

The concluding paragraph is:

"But what about getting back in? A large restructuring usually leaves shareholders at the mercy of those that held the debt. We’d suggest looking to an unencumbered rival instead."

Apparently from today's Investor Chronicle according to LSE:

"A spokesperson for the company declined to say whether Petrofac had missed a 16 June deadline for posting a performance guarantee that would secure a major contract. “Failure to do so… would have a detrimental impact on the liquidity of the group and the group’s ability to proceed with the financial restructure,” the company said on 31 May"

There won't be many retail punters holding shorts with the massive borrow costs. The only remaining shorters might be some high rolling (ISLA registered) borrowers.

The short money has already been made here.
