A 17k buy on PLUS and an 11k buy here have done the trick again today. Keen buying by PKW's standards - was the PKW Trustee 50k buy yesterday another positive signal?

SM, thanks a lot. I've been wanting to find something like that for ages!

I noted that "The City Code currently applies to any offer for a listed or unlisted public company considered by the Panel to be resident in the UK,
the Channel Islands or the Isle of Man (the target or offeree)."

I shall have to think about that in relation to AIM co.s listed in the UK but resident overseas (eg BVI co.s holding for chinese enterprises). Another risk there perhaps, but not relevant here...

I used to be but now I'm working from memory!

Nice 10k T trade buy at 95p reported at the bell. This continued interest should take the price a fair bit higher if people hang on here as Poyntona suggests above.

edmundshaw, this seems to explain it reasonably.

Download the full survey PDF

starting from about pg9. Might only be a 3 month timescale depending when shares were purchased. I think if the potential buyer has aquired 10% within the previous 12 months, then the 12 month protection clause would apply.

Also worth noting that companies buying back their own shares can cause problems as this might contravene insider dealing regs.

But, I'm no expert in these matters.

Does anyone have an (online) reference to this 1 year downside protection clause?

I just prefer my facts from the horse's mouth...

Nice!

So if they were to take it private, we'd have downside protection of 90p per share I think.

A further tick up this morning. Are there any trades going through on plus? Maybe a large order being filled?

Nick,

I'm in at an average of 24p so at the moment have quadrupled my money and have received around 50% of my money back in dividends do it has been pretty good to me.

I bought into Mears at 20p years ago and then sold out at 107p which I thought was a price they would be stuck at for a while. However they did go up to over £3 so it wasn't a wise decision.

With Parkwood you would hope that they can grow for the next 2-3 years at 20-30% a year and then we would be very happy.

I know with Mears quite a few of the directors with major shareholdings were requested to sell quite a few shares to meet institutional support. Maybe Mr. Hewitt would do this if more pension funds become interested.

If Parkwood can get there profit margins to the 4% they have set themselves and yearly turnover is around 150 million then in 3 years time eps would be around 20p. You would hopefully then see a share price between £3 and £4.

All wishful thinking but you never know.

Thanks Poyntona for the info. HOpe it pays you back for all this research. Can't see any reason for it not doing so. Good lucky matey

This situation has, I must admit, concerned me for a while. I remember holding shares in a great little company called Range Cookers which was taken off the market by a majority-shareholding chairmain at 20p, a LOWER price than the shares were then in the market.

Would hate to see this happen here.

Wow - I'm guessing the reason for today's rise are two late trades on PLUS. One 50k at 90p timed at 4.15, then another 50k at 90p, this time a T trade, at 4.44 - I assume both buys from earlier on. Nice going from someone!

Yep, Hewitt would have to pay at least what he paid for them, but my recollection is that only applies for a year after the transaction at which time that price falls away.

I wonder if Hewitt's been topping up again today?

Good to see that the house broker's forecasts are considered "conservative".

The article in shares magazine mentioned that companies who are involved with PFI are in favour with pension fund companies as they have a good solid rate of return over a number of years.

In another article in shares magazine it mentioned the shares bought by Mr. Hewitt and how the house broker was perhaps conservatively forecasting eps of 6.9 this year rising to 8p next year.

It also wondered if Hewitt considered privatising the company considering his dominant shareholding.

If Mr. Hewitt was to take it private does he have to pay at least what he bought shares for recently?

If so he would have to find around 8-9 million to buy the rest of the shares. I would think the money paid out in dividends per year would cover the cost of any borrowing he would need.

There was an article in last weeks Shares Mag about how PFI contracts are in vogue. Henderson's bid for Laing was mentioned, and it went on to mention other companies, including PKW that are involved in PFI's. So, indirectly, the recent rise could be fueled by bid speculation...

Hi guys,

these babies are certainly starting to move. Worth the wait. At this rate they will be a pound in a couple of days. There must be some more news out there but I have not seen it . Anyone else??

Hi rivaldo - no, you just have to keep checking forecasts with HS, one of the more laborious chores of investing!

Good to see the nice rise today, which appears to be on the back of that single 15k buy.

OT : Paulieb, nah, I sold out of FLK - as I posted at the time on the thread I didn't like the way they presented their last figures as good when they were actually bad, but were flattered by an "exceptional" gain. A bit underhand in my book.

If you want small ISAble stocks (apart from PKW!), see what you think of MSI - moving up now, with results in a month's time.
