Indeed and it increases the takeover price too.
"Forget future earnings George the metric here is future takeover." Indeed, but there is nothing wrong with strong earnings growth in the meantime - evidence of a viable business and a well run company and support for the SP.
Forget future earnings George the metric here is future takeover. Minnows like Pantheon may grow into something much bigger, possibly the fabled ten or twenty bagger. But in the end they are all just cannon fodder for the midsized or larger oil companies who find it cheaper and more manageable to acquire oil from the stock market than by actual exploration. BP, Exxon, Shell, Total are all in the business of eating the up and coming. So let’s just hope that Pantheon goes as a full sized fish to a major and not a sprat eaten by a mackerel! £5 would do but maybe not this week?
Digital stutter!
They have tried AV and doubtless still do. But nearly every case they've gone for, and I imagine they're the strongest, the perpetrators get away with it and the regulators get a slap on the wrist! It's not hard to cover your tracks if you're a financial institution, especially as various funds are run independently. How can one demonstrate that Chinese walls have been broken? Here's a hypothetical but very realistic example as I actually observed something analogous in a takeover situation. Fund manager A, who knows there's a placing coming and has been made an insider, bumps into fund manager B, who doesn't, at the coffee machine and says "Got any Pantheon Resources?" "Yes, quite a few," says B. A pulls a face and walks away. Fund manager B heads for his desk and sells some PANR. A month or so later, B knows a little something and a similar dialogue ensues. End result: both are winners and good luck anyone trying to find evidence, let alone proof, of wrongdoing.
Whether it’s September or November it doesn’t actual matter. What Pantheon needs is a good deal and ideally not with a major as they never report anything given it’s immaterial to their balance sheet. Plus if the project goes well they will eat you for breakfast given they already have the due diligence. The ideal candidate is a mid size player like Oil Search and even better if they come in with their local partner Repsol. That way a cheap bid gets messy and allows Pantheon to grow before the eventual and inevitable takeover turns up. But that assumes the oil flows in abundance! Fingers crossed!
