From weatherization to lighting, programs designed to enable customers to use less energy OKLAHOMA CITY, Feb. 11 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- OG&E announced today that the Oklahoma Corporation Commission has approved the company's application to initiate a comprehensive demand program designed to promote energy efficiency and conservation for each class of OG&E customers. Eight separate programs were approved, ranging from residential weatherization to commercial lighting -- all intended to enable OG&E customers to use less energy. In seeking approval of the demand programs, OG&E will be permitted to recover the cost of implementing the programs through a Demand Program Rider that would be added to customers' electric bills. Before any savings realized from the demand programs, OG&E's request would increase the average residential electric bill by less than $1.40 per month. "OG&E has a stated goal of not adding new, costly fossil-fueled electric generation until at least 2020, and our customers can help us meet that goal through conservation and improved energy efficiency," said Gary Marchbanks, Manager of Demand Management for OG&E. "These programs provide customers with opportunities to use energy more efficiently and potentially avoid much higher costs associated with adding new generation in the years ahead." Approved programs include: -- Low-Income Weatherization to increase the energy efficiency of homes occupied by low income customers. -- Fixed-Income Weatherization, a separate weatherization program designed to benefit fixed-income customers who do not meet the qualifications of the Low-Income Weatherization Program. -- Residential Thermal Efficiency for residential customers who need assistance in identifying areas to improve efficiency by having a comprehensive energy audit performed and having the opportunity to utilize incentives to improve overhead duct work, air conditioner tune ups and rebates for selected appliance replacements. -- Positive Energy® New Home Construction program encouraging builders and homeowners to utilize energy efficient homebuilding practices in the construction of new homes. -- Geothermal Heating, Cooling and Water Heating program providing incentives to customers who install geothermal heat pumps into their new or existing homes. -- Commercial Lighting program promoting efficient fluorescent lighting and new lighting technologies. -- Commercial/Industrial Standard program providing financial incentives for reducing energy costs and peak demand in non-residential facilities. -- Education Program will help expedite market transformation in Oklahoma and provide energy educational materials for all fifth grade students in the OG&E service territory. Also residential customers can find personalized energy information for their home on OG&E's web site, http://www.oge.com/, by accessing the custom energy report. In 2009, OG&E weatherized more than 1800 homes of low-income Oklahomans, assisted area builders in building more than 400 highly efficient new homes and work with small businesses to replace more than 200,000 inefficient lamps. OG&E, a subsidiary of OGE Energy Corp. (NYSE:OGE), serves more than 776,000 customers in a service territory spanning 30,000 square miles in Oklahoma and western Arkansas. OGE Energy also is the parent company of Enogex LLC, a natural gas pipeline business with principal operations in Oklahoma and Arkansas. DATASOURCE: OGE Energy Corp.
