Historic breaches far from optimal for Optimal

With all the concern about data breaches recently, see here, no business can afford to be lax with customer data, and particularly if it is involved in on-line payments and financial services. As a result, the latest information from Optimal Payments about a history of data breaches at a couple of its component businesses needs to be taken seriously.

The company has reported a press allegation that there were data breaches in the NETELLER business and the business which is now (the recently-acquired) Skrill in 2011 and 2012. This adds to earlier data breaches, in 2009 and 2010 which had been investigated and found not to be “material̶1;, with no losses incurred by any customers. Optimal has begun an investigation into all the data breaches and promises to keep the market informed as to its findings. (You can read about Optimal’s recent performance here).

In the current climate, there appears little that Optimal, or any company, can do about historic breaches other than be as open, honest and transparent as possible. The key requirement is to stop new breaches through the most rigorous controls. Otherwise many technology-led business models, and the companies that espouse them, will be set back many years, or even made completely unviable.

Historic issues with no customer detriment - this drop is totally over done. My problem is that I can't get hold of any stock, so have had to put an order in. Great opportunity to top up at a discount imho.

Took lead from talk talk share price movement...they recovered pretty much all the intra loss and that was headline news, current and potentially massive scale..This is small scale, historic and Defo not headline news...Shorters/mms played a blinder 330-340 finish imo

Little bit of time now for all to observe this is a historic problem and sweeping process ahead of the full listing and maybe even end the day up ? Personally the security is very tough now and would expect the back door also has some gaffa on it

Obvious really - blow all the stops out at 285ish. Not that easy to buy though when the roof falls in and you're standing in the bedroom thinking the floor is going to collapse as well!Well done all sub 300 buyers!
