04/3/2001 12:02 | I and a friend in early jan decided to sit staring all day at the trades on only three stocks, bradford and bingly, batm advanced communications and halifax, batm had around half a dozen 1 share trades and bradford and bingly/halifax had around a dozen each, there hasn't been any significant change in eithers share price since, therefore i add no weight to the one share trade being a code, unless its a code for no significant share price change out of the ordinary comming right up!lol | wonging

25/1/2001 15:24 | I've had to buy 1 share when using selftrade, as their quote system is odd- if the actual current quote is lower than the quote they have, you can still only buy as many shares as your funds will allow at their quote- so to get the number you want you have to top up afterwards. I can only do this this month because Im trading commission free. But (for the paranoid among you!!!)I assure you there was no test trading or market making motivation involved | crowman

25/1/2001 15:01 | Sometimes you will find that brokers will put through 1 or odd small numbers of shares as a'riskless principal transaction' to enable an average price contract to be issued. If you see small numbers go through its worth having a look at the trade code detail. Mike | bullshare

25/1/2001 05:43 | Single Company PEP accounts (and probably some other types of accounts) will often mop up dividend income by accumulating more shares in the company, so this may account for some of the small share transactions people see. | tromso
24/1/2001 23:28 | Pommy - On-line dealing. You could buy 1000 shares 1 at a time if you had the inclination. Hey what a good way to average out your purchase ;-) John | jhurbanek
24/1/2001 22:34 | This is happening all the more frequently and coincidently the broker Selftrade are operating a commission free trading month for all existing account holders. I would not be suprised if there is not a lot of test trading and/or mischief making going on from these account holders. Regards, John | jhurbanek

24/1/2001 20:04 | People buy 1 share to get company reports. Brokers do it to correct errors. There are more subtle ways of signalling than this. If you wanted to do it with a trade the last thing you would do is pick a 1 share trade! M | martini
24/1/2001 20:03 | My theory: Advfn's problems are somehow impacting on the exchange's data. Maybe it's a virus creeping against the flow of data on the exchange feed to ADVFN. If that's not the case then its probably human in origin. We may have to use guinea pigs to solve the riddle. One of us volunteers to do a one-share trade and then we all ask that person why they did it. | solomon
24/1/2001 19:55 | Also 1 share in NTY | humbugg |
