NEC further develops its range of SoundVu(R) enabled PC models

NEC this month launched a number of new models in its Valuestar home computing
range, marking the second time this year that the electronics giant has
increased its range of PCs featuring NXT's SoundVu technology.

In October 2002 NEC launched its first product with NXT's SoundVu technology. It
followed with a second product in November 2002 and in April 2003 it launched
further models featuring the technology. With the additional products referred
to in today's announcement, Japanese consumers will have a choice of more than
20 different SoundVu technology enabled PC models across the NEC Valuestar
range. Set in eight distinct lifestyle groups, with either a traditional
configuration of a stand-alone hard drive and monitor featuring a 17-inch or
17.5-inch high brilliance, digital TFT LCD screen, or an all-in-one
configuration, the Valuestar range satisfies all levels of the consumer PC
market.

The design and construction of a completely transparent, ultra-thin loudspeaker
integrated into a PC's monitor is ideal for today's personal computer market
where, increasingly, the demand is for PCs that double as home entertainment
units. SoundVu technology offers perfect synchronicity of sound and moving
image, replicating the movie theatre experience where the loudspeaker sits
behind the movie screen. In addition, by removing the need for conventional
speakers NXT's SoundVu technology frees up high demand real estate on a desk or
in a home environment, without compromising on audio quality.

Commenting on the further commercialisation NXT's CEO, David Pearson, said: "NEC
launched its first products with SoundVu technology less than eight months ago,
today there are more than 20 models on the Japanese market featuring our
technology - that represents exciting progress."

Valuestar range facts:

The Valuestar range uses SoundVu technology in four of the eight distinct
lifestyle types: the L-series is for users new to PCs; the T-series is for
intermediate and advanced users who are in need of advanced functions such as
editing images and sound; the FS-series is aimed at young adult couples; and the
F-series is aimed at families.

SoundVu technology facts:

SoundVu technology involves optimally positioning exciters at the 'invisible'
edge of a screen to cause a vibration across the surface, combined with the
controlled integration of the screen with the main body of the display product.
The result is that the screen acts as the loudspeaker, bringing sound and vision
together. The technology can be applied to a wide range of transparent materials
from polycarbonate plastics to laminated and tempered glass. SoundVu technology
removes the need for conventional loudspeakers, giving manufacturers of display
products such as mobile phones, flat-screen LCD monitors and televisions added
design flexibility and an easy, space-saving means of producing sound, without
compromising on quality.
