I try not to use the bus , but there is quite a handy little local one. The trouble is that it goes on a tortuous route to try to pass as many houses as possible. I'll be the only person on the entire bus without a free pass. You can stop it anywhere , so the pensioners get on it to go 10 yards. If one of them presses the button to stop it , another will quite happily sit there then press it again two houses further down the road. It would probably be quicker to walk.

They need to concentrate on taxing the things that annoy sensible folk (well me anyway). Budweiser , rose wine , lottery tickets , premium rate voting numbers for TV shows , American fast food outlets , branded leisure wear , Channel 5 and bus routes primarily used by pensioners who take it in turns to press the button ever 50 yards.

Next they will introduce a fat tax on chips and chocolate.

A quid on a bottle won't affect me , but a quid on a bottle of Blossom Hill is a 33% mark up. Binge drinkers only drink rose anyway , so they should be taxed extra for being so stupid.

Keep an eye out for the 76 version of the Penfolds Koonunga Hill , It's actually cheaper than the ordinary version at Tesco wine by the case. Gary Walsh gave the 2007 vintage 94 out of 100. This will explain what all the fuss is about.

Indeed......I'm trying a Merlot/CabSauv/Graciano 2001 Gran Reserva tonight, which came in nearly a NOP share under you Oyster Bay. Says on the label it goes well with football...
