All the places on the south coat are a bit like that except for Brighton which is full of young, green, guardian reading hippies and students.

The OIW is OK, a bit behind the times but in a nice way. Just steer clear of Cowes particularly if there is any yachting event on.

Not sure if it's still the case , but you used to have to show a bus pass to get into Eastbourne.

bdog, you could try Eastbourne. There's a direct train from Victoria, takes about 90 minutes.
It depends on what you want from the place. I have no idea about hotels there but they do have some in quite elaborate buildings on the front. I'm not sure if they will be up to the standards you require.

I like the sea front at Eastbourne you can walk out to the marina which is a couple of miles. Not much to see when you get there but it is a nice stroll.
Very nice going the other way but a bit steep up to Beachy Head.

You have probably tried Bournemouth.There's also Poole.

After that it depends whether you want smaller places with less facilities.

Spill the beans what "bitter memories" or do you just mean that you drank lots of different beers.

I need to get away for a few days down to the coast next week , but due to my chronic drinking , I prefer to get the train. Any suggestions?
We can't keep going to Brighton or Hastings and she mentioned the IOW , but that still holds many bitter memories for me. Also , I don't think that the train goes there.

Off to Weyfest in my baywindow vw campervan 1973. Dont get to nostalgic about old motors we have had the AA out 4 times in 5 weeks for our van, stick with a nice modern rust free car that actually gets from A - B.

amazed these aren't moving up more - thin volume, not a lot of stock about. Very depressed share price which must be underpinned by 2P reserves and the production. Guyana comes in these should surely rerate and even if they doubled they wouldn't be expensive.
