Posted at 14/11/2007 14:45 by amedin Apparently the problem is to do with the unexpected repatriation of cash from China. The company is to be taxed on this and impact passed through the P&L (effective tax charge increases from c23% to c33%). As this was unexpected there have been quite large downgrades for this year and next (c-20% both years). I attach the relevant paragraph form the results: "The tax charge for continuing activities before exceptional items in 2006/7 was £2.3m representing an effective rate of 37% compared with a rate of 16% for the prior year. The principal reason for the increased tax rate was the utilisation of UK tax losses to help minimise the cash tax payment to £1.0m for the year. During the year the Company repatriated all earnings from the Chinese schools business from the start of trading in September 2002 to December 2006. Additional UK corporation tax would normally be payable on this dividend at a rate of 17%. The Group utilised its deferred tax asset to shelter this UK corporation tax liability. The deferred tax asset was in respect of losses suffering a 30% tax rate and therefore has been released at the same rate. The Company decided that the cash benefit in reducing its tax payment outweighed the benefit of carrying the deferred tax asset forward." |
Posted at 07/3/2007 09:51 by hectorp NAE seems a reasonable core holding in a diversified portfolio. Not badly hit by the recent share fallout . Considerable growth going forward. On close watch. ! |

Posted at 30/7/2006 13:06 by patcarter Why don't NAE go for this peach before it goes off,or has it been on the books for too long and is now overipe!BROOKE HOUSE COLLEGE Market Harborough Leicestershire LONG ESTABLISHED INTERNATIONAL SIXTH FORM/EFL COLLEGE WITH FINE RECORD OF ENTRY TO UNIVERSITIES OF CHOICE. CURRENT ROLL 200*. SUPERB AND EXTENSIVE BOARDING CAMPUS CENTRED AROUND LISTED MANSION HOUSE. GOOD SPORTING, SOCIAL AND LEISURE FACILITIES. FRIENDLY ETHOS. This is a rare opportunity to acquire one of the UK's best and most delightful Sixth Form Colleges. Set in the centre of one of England's most attractive and best-preserved market towns the college is ideally situated for educational and social forays North, South, East and West. London is reached within a little over an hour by regular fast train services. Students come from the UK and a broad spread of foreign countries including Europe, the Far East and the former Eastern bloc. Unlike most such colleges, this one is vibrant and flourishing with holiday courses throughout July and August. The current owners, who wish to retire when the right buyer and the right price have been found, would be happy to work with the incoming directors for a period if required. It is expected that the great majority of the staff - administrative, marketing and teaching - would be delighted to remain working together. The current proprietors will be happy to work with the new owner to appoint a new Head of Studies. |
Posted at 05/5/2006 08:20 by hectorp About time they reintroduced British Educational Standards back in Britain. - as a contrarian I like the look of NAE. and the chinese deal recently looks to be good business. |
Posted at 16/3/2006 10:43 by seangwhite At least someone at NAE is showing a bit of long term planning,so lacking under our KEVs turn at the helm.Still see the UK nurseries as a problem, lots are on expensive leases/rents etc with a high fixed cost base it is going to hard to make a decent return. |
Posted at 08/2/2006 20:03 by cambodia Nord Anglia. An interesting play, where does it bounce? The problem is that NAE has almost no peers. This side of the education sector almost has no other listed companies. There's no barometer which shows how the market rates the education sector in terms of other listed companies share price. Therefore if the markets have gone cold on this sector NAE may now be in freefall. Having said that, think it unlikely. However drop to all time low (86P) may be on cards. Other consideration is NAE DEBT level. Restructuring and rising future demand provide the upside. |
Posted at 23/1/2006 17:11 by mryesyes Looks like it does have further to fall but cannot see this company failing to fund its activities. looks like a banker for when things improve and I just can't see them get worse, accept the share price may go below 100p but that's not the same as danger to NAE |
