    New Star Asset Management Group PLC ("New Star" or the "Company")
    Statement regarding press speculation 
    The Board of New Star notes the recent press speculation regarding the possible interest of third parties in acquiring the Company's
business. New Star is committed to pursuing its proposed capital restructuring, details of which were announced on 3 December 2008. New Star
has, however, received a number of expressions of interest from third parties in acquiring the Company's business and is now considering
possible strategic alternatives which may include a sale of the Company's business.  There can, however, be no certainty that any such
transaction will be forthcoming.  For the avoidance of doubt, New Star has not had any discussions with any party regarding an offer for the
Company's ordinary shares.
    In the meantime, New Star continues to pursue the implementation of its proposed capital restructuring.  
    Further announcements will be made in due course, if appropriate.
