I spoke to City of London PR last week, and they obviously couldn't answer questions in the way i would like ;)

Anyway, having spoken to them and Tony Carlton, I feel fairly comfortable. I have the Collins Stewart report as well, it's a good read. I hope a Feb update is likely. For me, the clincher is that NBR still has a very low market cap compared to plenty of diamond companies that our still in exploration and development, and Namibian have been producing for months.

"The company has given us an example of the conservative nature of the prospecting: The geologists expected BarbaraTal valley to yield 550 carats in total. However, 1,800 carats have been produced from the valley so far, and this using NR's outdated equipment." - which now isn't outdated.

95-98% of the Pomona diamonds are of gem quality.

Happy to mail the report to anyone who wants it. I'm sure most have it, and it has been quoted to death before I was here........

"It is important to note that management claim that they could in theory double the above production by spending £500k. We expect the warrants to be converted in 2005 (adding £670k to cashflow) and thisc will provide management with the necessary funds to do so. We have used the above base case scenario as the base for our financial forecasts, which can be found at the end of this note. If production capacity is increased and yileds are as expected it naturally follows that the forecasts would have to increase." etc etc

I think you'll find many trades are in the wrong column. I think the 50K shown as a buy is in fact a sell. This is what caused the fall.

Cinoib- you KNOW what mining stocks are like ..and this one moves, both ways, on small volume. As suggested , they may wish to process a fair bit of the 'new' material as well as the inferior material before announcing any results..

jojobt9- not at the moment, unfortunately....depends what they find but even then, they would have to really shift to get to that price. The volume would have to increase markedly for much to happen. They are in 'competiton' for investors with Petra and FDI which have both just announced good news.
Hope for news this week..

end of this month is the AR, and it would make sense for the company to issue an upate on current operational targets at the same time.

RNS's from the company, March 2004 x 1, April 2004 x 1, May 2004 x 2, June x none?, July x none?, August 2004 x 2, Sept 2004 x 2, Oct 2004 x 1, Nov 2004 x 2, Dec 2004 x 2, Jan 2004 x 1

"The company will be in a position to commence full production on January 17,
2005 when testing and commissioning of the in-field screen and water system will
be completed. It has, however, established a 35,000t stockpile of sized gravel
from the northern area of the resource and will begin processing this material
immediately after the Christmas break on January 14. This will continue until
the higher grade material from Saltzdal becomes available."

I guess they will skip telling us anything in February..... ;o) mibb

Just thought I would add some real diamond news instead of gossip.

Raising of $ diamond prices 14% in 2004 followed by further rise 2005, however weak $ signifies 5 out of 7 mines running at a loss... and black empowerment transaction going through.

Any impact on NBR?

(Updating with further details on De Beers' FY performance, outlook)
LONDON (AFX) - Anglo American PLC said it will report earnings of 381 mln
usd for the year 2004 from its investment in diamond miner De Beers Societe
Anonyme.
De Beers reported headline earnings for the year of 652 mln usd, against a
restated 590 mln usd the year before.
Anglo American, which holds a 45 pct stake in De Beers said it expects to
receive 90 mln usd final dividend on ordinary shares relating to financial year
2004 and the second 26 mln usd payment on preference shares for 2004 in early
2005.
In a statement, De Beers said 2005 is likely to be a more challenging year
for the diamond industry but said there is now growing evidence that diamonds
are competing favourably with other luxury products.
It said 2004 was another good year for the diamond industry, with
preliminary indications that global retail sales of diamond jewellery was up 6
pct year-on-year in local currency terms and up 8 pct in US dollars.
During the year, levels of polished stocks in the cutting centres declined
but cutting centre bank debt continued to climb in line with the increase in the
volume of trade.
There was strong demand for rough diamonds from the cutting centres
throughout the year and full year sales by the Diamond Trading Company, De
Beers' marketing were 5.695 bln usd, up 3 pct from the year earlier.
During the year, Diamond Trading raised its rough diamond prices three
times, resulting in average sales rising 14 pct versus 2003.
In 2005, Diamond Trading raised its rough diamond prices by a further 3 pct
on the evidence of the underlying demand growth achieved in 2004 and expected in
2005.
De Beers' production for the year as a whole, inclusive of its joint
ventures in Botswana and Namibia, totalled 47 mln carats, up 7 pct from the year
before.
De Beers said the weak US dollar, in which diamonds are sold, has put its
older and more marginal mines under continued pressure with five of its seven
mines operating at a loss.
Diamond stocks at year end were at a similar level to that reported at the
end of 2003.
De Beers' said the reorganisation of its South African assets is now in the
process of being implemented and accordingly, De Beers Consolidated Mines Ltd
should be in a position to implement a Black Economic Empowerment transaction
during 2005.

I'm beginning to think that the director's 20k buys were basically a 'here's a nice gesture on our part, just bear with us, won't be too long now' sort of thing. I'm quite happy for the price to drift down to 40p whilst we wait for an update, there'll be topping up for me. mibb
