13/7/2001 14:27 | AJD...my sentiments entirely... I gottin at 77 but not tempted to sell...note that their RNS stated "expressions of interest", ie in the plural...whether this was accidental or there is more than one interested party.....two usually does bear fruit...also I like the fact they have on several occasions this year committed themselves to delivering shareholder value | cb7
13/7/2001 14:12 | Short termists profit taking - don't forget these shares were around 65p only a month or so ago. Not a bad profit to bag whilst it's there. However I'm hanging on to see what happens on the bid front - there isn't a major amount of downside in this share given their cash pile so disappointing news on a possible bid shouldn't be so bad. | ajduk
13/7/2001 09:43 | I reckon between 130-150p would be the offer. | a.fewbob
13/7/2001 07:50 | Possible bid speculation according to today's papers. Not seen details yet. lda | lda
12/7/2001 21:52 | I can't find any reason for the large move today - but if you look at the chart on Merant it is very bullish with a golden cross recently suggesting much higher levels to come. Don't forget that Merant are forecast to make eps of around 10p this year, and still have around 69p per share in cash with which to purchase their own shares or make useful acquisitions. I'm hanging on until around 130-150p which I hope they will reach within 6-12 months... well I am a Sagitarian .... | selftaught
12/7/2001 19:53 | Has anybody picked up the reason for today's sudden rise, up 15.5p to 111.5p? | dan_bach
15/6/2001 12:33 | Merant Raised to `Buy' at H.C. Wainwright By Lindsey Mackay Princeton, New Jersey, June 13 (Bloomberg Data) -- Merant Plc-spon Adr (MRNT US) was raised to ``buy'' from ``accumulate'' by analyst Herbert R Maher at H.C. Wainwright. The target price is $10 per share | a.fewbob
14/6/2001 12:21 | Merant went through a transitional period and now is time to reap the reward. They knew microfocus was becomeing defunct and had to re-invent themselves. At least thas the way I see things.(and techinvest) | a.fewbob
13/6/2001 22:55 | Today's coverage from the FT is at : As always the important bit is : "Merant is trading at a sales multiple of less than 1, while healthier software companies trade on multiples of between 3 and 5. There should be some scope for upside, but given the company's record of disappointing investors this is one only for the brave." | dan_bach
13/6/2001 12:24 | anyone like to speculate a fair value for merant? 150p seems reasonable to me. | a.fewbob
12/6/2001 23:22 | Here's the link to the Sharecast article : "The sale of Micro Focus, to Gold Gate Capital and Parallax Capital Partners, will add £32m to Merant’s existing £60m cash pile. But the cash generative business is only capitalised at £126m, after this morning’s 14p share rise to 93.5p." | dan_bach
12/6/2001 20:59 | There is news of a shareholder payout, after the disposal. See www.sharecast.com (second item on front page). | welshanalyst
12/6/2001 12:06 | So far so good. In just a few hours I will be that bit richer or poorer. | a.fewbob
12/6/2001 09:14 | With this disposal will they be valued at cash? | a.fewbob
12/6/2001 08:26 | We can breath a sigh of relief - a turning point seems to have finally been reached. | nickthegambler
12/6/2001 07:44 | Results are out : see for your self at : "Improved execution in the fourth fiscal quarter ended April 30, 2001 produced strong sequential revenue and earnings growth. The strength of the Company's revenue, along with reduced operating costs, contributed to increased profitability. MERANT has undergone significant change throughout the organization in the past several quarters. In light of the changes and the current economic climate, the Company undertook a complete review of its business and strategy, and believes that focus around core product families will help create and maintain a sustainable and profitable business model." | dan_bach

24/5/2001 19:50 | htaylor - i'm not 'so sure ' i said 'likely. However Timon Day(i respect him a lot) from Shares said 'Merant made £3.8m before one offs....fans of the stock expext this figure to bounce to £14m this year,£55m in 2002,and more than £70m in 2003'.That's big profits for a co with the current market cap.VERY BIG. I have some faith of the liklihood of that because of the great existing client base - rare for most tech stocks. It's just that Merant's revenues from old generation COBOL products fizzled out nbefore their ecommerce stuff got rolling. I think it's a genuine recovery situation. | nickthegambler
24/5/2001 10:28 | Up another couple of pence... maybe there are more positive folks like you guys out there than I thought. Nick, what makes you so certian it will turn a good profit? | htayler
23/5/2001 20:29 | As above, stick with it, for anyone buying now it looks very good for a 50 - 100% profit in the next few months. For anyone who bought a while ago and held then it's a bit frustrating - stay with it though it's bound to turn sooner or later - very strong profits likely in the next couple of years.Just remember you can't really go wrong by buying a share at near its lowest point. | nickthegambler
23/5/2001 00:29 | Up 5p in morning trading. Is it possible that this dog of a share is finally on an upward drive? I can't find anything to support the move though. Anyone heard any news? I've been in so long I'll probably qualify for a bus-pass before I make a profit. Looking to bail out at about 100p - if it ever gets that high... | htayler |
