Tin - MSC Butterworth Smelter failure may take 10,000-15,000t of tin out of the market (3-5% out of the market)

• The failure of MSC’s furnaces at Butterworth which have been running since 1902 is likely to exacerbate the deficit in tin production as electronics manufacturers run as fast as their semiconductor chips will let them.

• The tin market recorded a 5,200t deficit last year with a further 2,700t deficit forecast for 2021 according to the International Tin Association.

• Global tin production was 310,000t in 2019.

• MSC is planning to move tin smelting to new facilities at Pulau Indah, Port Klang, Malaysia later this year.

• Tin companies: Alphamin, AfriTin, Cornish Metals*+ (Cornish Metals is drilling its new discovery at the United Downes site in Cornwall)
*SP Angel acts as Nomad and broker to Cornish Metals.

Tin surges to 10-year high as supply woes persist

• Tin prices on the LME hit fresh 10-year highs on Friday morning, rising 3% to over $30,000/t and up 4.3% this week.
• China’s Yunnan province is currently experiencing power outages affecting smelters, with the International Tin Association estimating that smelters will shut for about 10 to 20 days an impact 1000-2000t of refined production.
• Earthquakes following a volcanic eruption in Congo are disrupting exports of tin concentrate from mineral-rich North Kivu province, with Congo accounting for 8% of the world’s tin concentrate.

Hopefully will be heading higher soon

I think he used to be OK in face to face interviews, but he doesn't seem to like talking to a computer screen.

Anthony Viljoen is not very good at communicating what's happening. The interviewer had to repeat questions several times before getting remotely clear answers.

Longer term, this looks like a very good investment. My worry is getting to the medium term stage. The next financials should be very interesting.

Meanwhile the company should employ a better communicator to do these presentation videos.

"1289t draw on Shanghai Futures Exchange tin warehouse stocks today. General market feeling is that this was for local consumption and not for export to the West. If so, and Chinese market is now short, then next leg higher on prices is imminent."

First question, I am clearly geographically challenged i meant North! Second question: My broker rang me up to tell me the offer was on and that they would try and get an allocation from the placing broker, I told them yes, gave them the number I wanted and on it went. I have four broker accounts, carbon based life-form ones, and two digital only accounts. My strategy is to buy on capital raises, because I almost invariable see them as a good thing, as above, then the strategy and thinking I have to do is all around the exit. The brokers advise on that and i put my own view in too. By and large I do not tend to buy in the open market.I dont have the ability and insight to make those judgements well, long experience has taught me this! Learning the hard way. That said occasionally I do.

Paddyfool; Why would a boom drive commodity prices South, Surely demand would send prices North
