07/7/2009 11:53 | Could be that with the MacQ acting to the detriment of Glencar, GF realised that this JV was very important to GEX now, so GF tried to improve terms in their favour. Can't see Hugh going against the LOI but maybe Gold Fields tried it on. -------------------- Anyway, we now still have the star of the Mali licenses , Komana, where a mine will be built, and also have Solona adjacent which will add to the case. Those two licenses are very complementary. Hugh has already spoken to many companies/people as he has said, so will have options open - although the GF deal was the favourite. Maybe we will have our own mine at Komana supported by Solona. | ![]() 1waving
07/7/2009 11:44 | Oh well, what now?? Goldfields still own the shares, £1.2mill, hope we don,t have to give that back. Does anyone think Glencar will start thier own mine?? | ![]() stenick
07/7/2009 11:43 | THAT initially winded me! I wonder did MacQ's objections inform GEX's negotiations stance! ANYTHING is possible now. GF clearly want Komana so its a question how badly they want it. Negotiations may yet be reconvened. Im sure Barrick and Randgold wont be idle observers for much longer. SHI7 and Im away from PC land from the 14th July to the 10th Aug. Im not in a position to phone GEX right now but Id recommend that it be done - strongly and pronto. | ![]() bongo bwana
07/7/2009 11:35 | Thats a shock. Still some in the market clearly thought we were giving it away too cheaply. It's back to the next drill results then, prior to the rainy season for the next news. We have hopefully still one Ghana j/v in the bag. Perhaps Goldfields thought they had the whip hand, wonder if Macq will lend us a few bob now then if we ask nicely, please sir!!! | ![]() haydock
07/7/2009 11:33 | oops --- we now have Komana back - but what to do ????? | ![]() 1waving
07/7/2009 11:29 | BB - many thanks for your update from the AGM, sorry I havent posted sooner. Although with todays news elements of the report may now be irrelevant unfortunately. The GF deal was excellent IMO and left us fully funded. Im hoping Hmc can still pull something out of the bag. Just hope it isnt a merger or a takeover at only a slight premium. We have some superb assets, and that hasnt changed. What are your thoughts on this news? Hope all is well | robbi123
07/7/2009 11:21 | Gold Fields Update (Glencar) TIDMGEX Glencar Mining plc ("Glencar" or the "Company") Gold Fields Negotiations 7 July 2009 Glencar announces that negotiations with Gold Fields Limited in relation to the proposed joint venture on Glencar's Komana Project in Mali have been terminated without agreement. The outline terms were set out in the Non Binding Letter of Intent ("LOI") published on 25th March 2009. Since signing the LOI, the Board of Glencar has been endeavouring to achieve a set of terms that it would have been in a position to recommend to its shareholders. Unfortunately, agreement could not be reached on certain material items in the terms and consequently discussions have terminated. Glencar will now continue its appraisal of other options, including independent financing and possible mergers with other companies with complementary assets. A statement on progress in these matters will be made in due course. 07/7/2009 09:59 | Just checked the performance of GEX in the last 6 months. Made 50%+ perhaps we are a little too close to the day to day running to see the real performance. O.K many of us are still down, but share price is offering some opportunities. CEY did 100%, in the run up to first pour. | ![]() haydock
07/7/2009 08:37 | Up 8%+ this morning but portfolio entry/purchase was at 3.4p - so down £22000 today - The RNS is very interesting and its early days yet. | ![]() bongo bwana
07/7/2009 07:39 | They are near their high since I mentioned them --- you aren't talking about xtr alone are you, anyway, today will see them to a new recent high, that should put you well up !! | ![]() 1waving

06/7/2009 22:28 | I wonder why Goldfields aren't interested in Adamus. Near their mines in Ghana, got 1Moz (they expect to be at 2Moz by production), a positive feasibility study (after some optimisation using the oxide resource), 100,000oz pa for 10 years. Anyway - they're cup in hand for the best part of $100m...looking for debt:equity but not from Macquarie (their major shareholder) who in their last mine (which they couldn't hold onto) demanded 714,000oz to be hedged when annual production was just 200,000pa with gold at a crazy $300! May be Adamus aren't interested in Goldfields... Anyways, I though this was funny: | ![]() serpicouk

04/7/2009 18:49 | Did anyone see that Ariana are thinking about raising some additional capital by selling its initial gold as gold bars to the public. I think this is an interesting idea - I'd happily buy a few bars from Komana. Company makes money, shareholders get some gold for a reasonable price - win:win. Incidentally, does anyone actually go to the hassle of owning physical? Or is it only for those that think the world is about to end - in which case small weight coins would be better than bars... | ![]() serpicouk
04/7/2009 15:09 | the books are probably burnt by now...LOL.. | ![]() stenick
04/7/2009 11:49 | This is what they claim to have Rank -- Owner ---- -Tonnes -- Share of Foreign Reserves 1 -- United States -- 8,133.5 ------ 78.3% Probably all held in a very big warehouse, extremely secure ( to avoid any whiff of auditing ), with pallets stretching across every square inch of floorspace with just one piece of paper on each pallet with the simple writing thereupon -------------------- This is Benny the bean counter saying ' Hey guys, look what I've done. Turned all that yukky yellow stuff into good ole trusted and valuable greenbacks. Now ain't that just fine an' dandy ' ( Eat yer heart out Gordon slobovich Brown ) | ![]() 1waving
04/7/2009 11:18 | I think the fear is that they HAVE been cooking the books...since 1913! :) I'm amazed that the Fed has never had an independent audit in its whole history. Scary. | ![]() serpicouk
04/7/2009 10:40 | Yes Serpico it was Morila, it was talked about here before the GF JV.Oh well at least the equipement should be brand new and state of the art now.Interesting read on the Fed, But will they not just cook the books!!! | ![]() stenick
04/7/2009 09:54 | Stenick - Don't think GF have an operational presence in Mali (yet). Believe the closest are a couple of small mines in Ghana but they're not closing down in the near future. Are you thinking of Morila (Randgold) which is a huge mine not too far from Komana and is coming to the end of its life. | ![]() serpicouk
04/7/2009 09:22 | Serpico, we all go a little stir crazy, nothing to worry about...lol.. I think the figure of $220M is the figure Gold Fields are likely to spend on Komana (I am sure I read that somewhere) and I am hoping that because they have a mine nearby by that is depleating they can transfer a lot of equipement to Komana and hopefully cut the time in gettin a mine up and running (I am sure I read that on this thread). | ![]() stenick
03/7/2009 21:16 | I have no idea what this thread is on about...so I'll have a little ramble myself... I keep one eye on Greystar Resources [currently have no position], mainly because of the elephant sized resource for peanuts market cap. Anyway, their pre-feasibility study the other week suggested the cap ex would run in at about $1 Billion. That's a big number and got me thinking about whether I had a realistic feel for what Komana might look like. As an approximation I want to use Randgold [one of my favourites] who have a mine under construction at Tongon (located just south of the Mali border). Two pits, similar geology, similar grade, hopefully will be similar size and throughput, similar processing, similar location, etc. In particular I want to highlight the cap ex which is $280M and the mine construction time scale which is just over 2 years construction (hampered by the rainy seasons). | ![]() serpicouk
