stock fall in the last hour pretty silly, investors seem to have seized on the comments about Singapore. He does tend to shoot himself in the foot does old Kwek, never totally upbeat always something to moan about. You never get the feeling this board wants the MLC price to go up. There had better be some dividend changes next year - hope co ditches its obsession with 2.08p ps.

From The Sunday Hearld {Scotland}

Hotels group Millennium & Copthorne, which has prestige outlets in Glasgow and Aberdeen, will take an early chance to update investors on the potential impact of swine flu on its business when it produces quarterly figures on Wednesday.

Brokers are already braced for bad news as a result of falling international demand and believe prospects are especially bleak for the group's Asian operations, particularly in China where room rates have plunged as a result of excess capacity following the Beijing Olympics.

Brokers at Shore Capital say annual profits could slide to around £45m, down from £125m last year.

Hope this helps.

MLC is priced at around 0.36x book value, and bear in mind book value is understated for many of the properties it owns.

Problem is right now, investors aren't buying hotels as we have seen in Korea. So stock is a tuck away. Low debt means co will not cut DIV which is the main support.

Quality portfolio though, they could get £200m for London Tara hotel on its own.

rounder2, 1600p was mentioned august 2007 here:

Millennium & Copthorne

Posted on August 7th, 2007 in Market whispers.

Interims impress. Broker Evolution reckons shares are worth 900p (current price 580p). It explains: 'MLC is a 'special sit' opportunity for investors with an eye for value. MLC is an increasingly rare 'asset play' in a sector where there has been a massive divestment of assets by hotel companies.
'The NAV based on the Jan 2004 revaluation is 485p, this rises to 512p when the December 206 revaluation is factored in. We believe that the NAV could be anywhere between 700p and 1600p (not a typo!) on a break-up scenario.'

Millennium & CopthorneAugust 8th, 2007 | Market whispers | No comments.

Charles Stanley reckons the departure of the latest boss (this is number three in as many years) has been over-hyped and the shares - which dropped sharply yesterday - are oversold.
Repeating its buy and 670p price target, the broker says: 'Previous CE's have a right to feel aggrieved. When the last two left they had little impact on the share price.
'By contrast Mr Pappas with the shortest tenure, the least experienced and by definition the least influential, has sent the shares, on strong results and unchanged development potential.'
