02/8/2006 13:41 | "..milestones available are "up to a six figure sum" over the initial 12 months..." So that's no more than £100,000 otherwise he'd have called it a six figure sum rather than "up to". And could be way lower of course. | m.t.glass
02/8/2006 13:36 | I'll post this rather than quote from it, as it will scroll from view within the news panel sometime: INTERVIEW Micap upbeat after two contract wins LONDON (AFX) - Micap PLC this morning unveiled an option agreement with a major crop protection company and a development contract with a leading drinks group, to investigate potential licensing opportunities for the AIM-listed company's patented yeast encapsulation technology. Terms and identities were not revealed, however Micap said it will receive access and milestone payments plus royalties on all sales of products containing the technology, under the deal with the crop company. Micap's chief executive Michael Norris told AFX News this morning that the milestones available are "up to a six figure sum" over the initial 12 months. The company, "a very large European business which is one of the world's largest groups", is looking for ways to reduce the amount of chemicals needed to preserve crops after harvesting and in transport. Microencapsulation is a process whereby droplets of liquid or particles are coated with a film to protect a substance, separate compounds or make materials easier to handle. The technology can be utilised in a number applications and Micap already customers in markets such as food flavouring and agrochemicals. After an 12 month trial, which is not being funded by Micap, the partner will decide whether to pursue regulatory approval for a product. That will take 18 months, meaning any potential launches are still two to two and a half years away, Norris admitted. "But it's a positive commitment from a major company, there's cash involved for Micap and it increases the likelyhood we'll get products on the market," the CEO said. While house broker Teather & Greenwood have not published earnings forecasts for the group this year, Norris said the news should "underpin their expectation". "We been working with them for 18 months and were hoping we could realise some value, so it's in line with our expectations" for the year, he said. Meanwhile, Norris believes the deal with the drinks company has the potential to drive future revenue growth. For the remainder of this year, Micap will be investigating some "problems" the company has to see if microencapsulation can provide a solution. "If we can prove we can deliver the solutions, this is a contract we hope will grow significantly over time," Norris predicted. Shares in Micap climbed today on the news and at noon were trading half a penny, or 18 pct higher at 3.25 pence. amy.brown@afxnews.co ab/gp | m.t.glass
02/8/2006 12:54 | 55MLN SHARES IN ISSUE, IS THIS CORRECT?? | trymelater
02/8/2006 12:15 | Don - there's only SCAP left on the bid(EVO, WINS and TEAM have all dropped back onto the offer), so I don't think it'll be there for long. As I said earlier, I think MMs have plenty of stock, after the institutional dump, and they've just given it a run out to lock in a few more punters today.... All IMHO, DYOR etc. Rgds dell | dell314
02/8/2006 12:10 | at least it's made it to be presently #3 position on the advfn gainers chart. not too bad considering market sentiment is presently against biotech AND small cap AND penny shares.... | don muang
02/8/2006 11:32 | Three years after floatation, a couple more ongoing (possibly longtime) assessment and evaluation deals doesn't sound solid enough news really. It does seem more like a concerted effort to stir up interest though.. | m.t.glass
02/8/2006 10:34 | did a dummy sell for 50k was offered 3.12p on line so its improving dell | blueman2
02/8/2006 10:31 | blueman - FWIW, I think MMs are playing games here. Earlier on, I couldn't even get a dummy sell for anything over 25k to go through, so it's pretty clear that MMs aren't exactly gagging to get hold of MIC shares! I suppose that's hardly surprising, bearing in mind that there was a significant institutional dump fairly recently and we've not seen much sign of those shares finding new homes. As for today's news, it is certainly positive but these kind of evaluations are going to take a considerable period of time before any kind of commercial agreement is likely. I seem to remember the previous option agreement talked about a period of several years. Clearly, the option agreements will result in some access and milestone payments but it will be useful to see how these impact on the company's cashburn rate before getting too excited, IMHO.... One also has to consider why they tried to ramp up the stock with that leak to the Times for their "Rumour of the Day". Are they trying to give the share price a little boost prior to a placing? All IMHO, DYOR etc. Rgds dell | dell314

02/8/2006 07:23 | interesting .... two items news release - one concerning an Option Agreement, the other a Developement Agreement. As mentioned in the RNS, the company now has sources of short term revenue plus on-going royalties if all comes good. So share price should be looking to build from here.... | don muang
02/8/2006 07:12 | New Option Agreement RNS Number:0905H MICAP PLC 02 August 2006 For release 07.00am 02 August 2006 MICAP PLC ("MICAP") The AIM - quoted technology company specialising in the microencapsulation of active ingredients New Option Agreement and Development Contract win "Micap grants option to major crop protection company" & "Concludes development agreement with world-leading drinks company" New Option Agreement Micap plc (LSE: MIC.L) today announces that it has signed an Option Agreement with a leading crop protection company ("the Partner") (the subsidiary of a major international business with worldwide sales in 2005 in excess of $3 billion), to evaluate and license Micap's patented yeast encapsulation technology ("the Technology") for specific applications in the agrochemical field. Micap has been working with the Partner on a number of projects over recent months and promising results have been seen in the use of the Technology to enhance the performance of agrochemical actives in fields in which the Partner has a significant interest. The Partner has now commenced field trials with the Technology to collect further efficacy data. Over the period of the relationship, the Partner will pay Micap access and milestone payments. Micap will be entitled to a royalty on all sales of products containing the Technology if it is subsequently commercialised. Micap has also been working with the Partner to develop novel microencapsulation solutions for other applications, and hopes this will also lead to further options over time. The worldwide crop protection market was in excess of US$30 billion in 2004, with fungicides and insecticides accounting for approximately half of this. Development Contract Win Micap has also won a contract with one of the World's largest drinks companies, (with a market capitalisation of over #25 billion), to investigate the use of microencapsulation technologies in new product developments. The initial Development Project runs through 2006 and will be carried out by Micap GmbH, the subsidiary specialising in bespoke microencapsulation solutions. Commenting, Michael Norris, Chief Executive of Micap, said: "The signing of this further Option Agreement underlines the significant opportunities for our patented yeast encapsulation Technology in the field of crop protection. We now have two world leading companies investing significant sums into product developments, which, if subsequently commercialised, will bring significant revenues to Micap". "Equally important I feel, is the winning of a Development Contract from a major drinks group to look at ways in which we can use our expertise to assist them in new product development. This is another in a line of projects from major companies won by the Company in recent months, bringing both short term revenue and the opportunity of significant upside from royalties of direct sales.
