The stocks you speak of from brokers, never make up more than 3% of total short positions

Its majority large holders/institutions , every time

Brokers often have to lay out short or use other measures to cover their own risk. it is normal - that protects you as much as them

SR - Your thoughts on Shorting is actually wrong. Holders don't always give permission knowingly for shorting their shares.

Unfortunately many Brokers lend out a holders stock without them even knowing about it. Just more unscrupulous money making tactics from Brokers...

Yes some large long term holders do at times lend out for a commission. The law should be changed that when notifying the FCA of short positions they should have to declare where they got the stock!!

That then stops the next method used at times which is NAKED SHORTING and totally illegal...
