I've taken plenty of profit close to this price anyway , so I'll let the rest ride for now.

Yes gold is where the action is, +10% already in 2008 in pounds I think, Chinese New Year soon. I have just bought a little more of the real stuff, bling bling.

But over its lifetime MLW has performed the same % as gold so I'm sure it will catch up in it's own time. And MLW does dividends I presume that gold does not.

Thanks for the idea on MLCO, will look into that, I assume it's a basket of commodities. CED is a slightly leveraged one, but I don't know who runs it.

MLW and MLCO have performed similarly, except recently MLCO has gone up while MLW has not. I guess therefore that MLW is the one to hang onto for now as they have a long history of performing similarly. But I'm inclined to wait for a dip on MLCO and have some of both.

As for MLW it is just repeatedly swinging down to test the old July high, so unless it gets significantly below there I call it a strong buy at the moment, given commodities like gold seem to be rising faster than the stockmarket is going down.

yes , discount may be unreasonably wide even after the tumble yesterday. NAV probably now about 730p or so I guess . MLW share price still fell sharply fron it's 883 peak along with all metal stocks . Hopefully a recovery today !

The first time (undiluted) NAV has breached £8 - as MLW has been buying stock, the impact of warrant exercise will be minimised. The discount has widened, as the share price has anticipated mining equities coming off the boil a bit after recent runs. Compare the almost 50%+ moves in BLT/RIO recently - there has not been such follow through in MLW. Despite recent rises, still looks attractive IMO.

i put the price anomalies down to lack of interest in the warrants, and the discouragingly large spread. it's only when they become quite obviously overpriced or underpriced that folk step up to deal and without volume things can easily get out of kilter. i'm sure the mms principal ambition is to balance their book irrespective of whether the warrants are cheap or not, so it mainly comes down to supply and demand and apathy.

perhaps worth remembering that these warrants were freebies on the basis of one for five, and trade at only a fifth the price of the shares, so for many mlw holders their warrants are of little financial significance ( 1/25) compared to their mlw holding.

it is our good fortune as private investors investing modest sums that such price anomalies can present opportunities, and mlw/mlwt is far from unique in this respect.

does look like warrant price could go higher after long period of consolidation. Downsize risk appears limited if MLW share price does go lower in short term as warrants will have time value . I bought a few more today as seemed irrestible !!

no conflict. the earlier post details the basis on which the exercise prices were to be determined. the actual prices in my post were set in stone at close of business on 16th march 2006. there are no other warrants.

i agree the warrant price isn't reacting much at all to swings in the mlw price and has a marked tendency to lag, but i'm certain it will if the mlw price should move decisively in either direction. the warrant price is driven by warrant supply and demand, so being thinly traded and markets being what they are it will find its own level which may sometimes look strange.

if the spread was narrower and the warrant therefore more tradeable things might look a bit different, but it doesn't alter the fact that the warrants have quite high intrisic value and modest time value at current prices.

good rises in OZ in ZFX,BHP and RIO may help MLW share price today .

BTW, making new all-time highs is often regarded as a positive indicator. Now at 232.25, MLW share price is pulling clear of the previous all time high of 226.75 achieved in January 2004.
