04/11/2008 15:26 | If MPH does go under, as now looks likely, I think a BERR enquiry into the conduct of the MPH's directors would be in order. In particular regarding recent substantial bonus payments. "Statement re. Suspension At the AGM the Board of Marchpole announced, 'that trading conditions in the current financial year continue to be extremely difficult as a result of the deterioration in consumer markets, following the ongoing global financial crisis. The Board is taking all appropriate measures to deal with the current challenging economic environment and is maintaining a regular dialogue with the Company's bankers, in common with most other businesses exposed to the retail sector.' Pending the outcome of those discussions the Company has, accordingly, requested that the FSA suspend the Company's listing and trading in the Company's shares on the London Stock Exchange pending clarification of the Group's financial position." | marben100

04/11/2008 13:47 | clearly things are worse as it's gone global, but if the DKNY deal works out MPH should be saved but it will take longer may help that MPH is world wide and not just UK, Dollar profits changed to sterling should add a little too. Anyway Louis Vitton is huge and should not go under owing MPH too much. Hope we get an idea in december. good luck | eagle eye3
04/11/2008 10:32 | Lord Buffet you bought 100k two days before the AGM, did what you learn at the AGM make you more or less confident that it was a worthwhile purchase? | dan de lion
04/11/2008 09:53 | Lord Buffett Would you care to elucidate ? remynapoleon | remynapoleon
03/11/2008 20:21 | Well I was the only P.I. at the AGM (well there was one other, but noone who posts here) and I learnt quite a bit about how things have changed since August... especially the various parties' perceptions. (The piece quoted is dated 1/4/08 by the way, fact.) | lord buffett
03/11/2008 17:48 | thinking about DKNY would they get involved with MPH if they thought it would go bust. | eagle eye3
03/11/2008 16:20 | not at all, atlas was first mentioned by marchpole in August They have done their research and gone in with the backing of a pension fund knowing all the problems, and more importantly Morris is no longer free to do as he likes with atlas on the board and 30% of the company... Eyeryone has taken a hit in the last year if you can get over the shock of going into a slump there is a good chance you can get out the other side, but in this case only because they have a new contract with DKNY,otherwise Atlas would not have come on board. What is MPH worth if they show a 3 million profit in 17 months. 13-15 million thats 10 times todays price. But it could still go under... | eagle eye3
03/11/2008 15:08 | That Atlas press piece is from March/April time, so is not new and pretty much pre-dates the current troubles; the outlook has changed quite a bit since then. (That's not to say they don't still have those aspirations of course.) | lord buffett
03/11/2008 15:04 | I was thinking of buying atlas but it's private. Joop is good brand I always buy some when I'm in Gremany. my average is now 39p toped up with 45k this morning, probably have another go in new year if not bust by then. good luck all | eagle eye3

03/11/2008 08:54 | going bust, I think not Start News About Atlas Design Group Business Areas Markets Contact Customer area Latest published Atlas Design to be Europe's leading fashion house Atlas Design to be Europe's leading fashion house in accessories 'hip and up' Atlas Design AB and the Sixth Swedish National Pension Fund have entered into a long-term partnership in which the Sixth Swedish National Pension Fund will acquire a 24.5 percent holding in the family-owned Atlas Design via a new issue of shares. This is intended to lead to Atlas Design becoming Europe's leading fashion house in accessories 'hip and up'. The goal is a turnover of SEK 1.5 billion within five years. Atlas Design is currently one of Sweden's leading brands in accessories, neck ties and shirts for men and women. The company aims to continue to expand in the European market. This expansion will be brought about through both organic growth and acquisitions. "In our estimation, Atlas Design has excellent prospects for taking market share both in Sweden and abroad. The company is well-run, the brand Atlas Design is strong and manufacturing under license well established and the company has a solid reputation," says Mats Augurell, responsible for AP Partner Investments, Sixth Swedish National Pension Fund. Its vision is to become Europe's strongest fashion house for accessories 'hip and up' for men and women. The focus will be on four divisions: Atlas Design's own brands (Atlas Design and Guthrie & Valentine), brands under license (Joop!, Bugatti and Tiger of Sweden), private labels and a verticalization aimed at strengthening the company's own brands. "Through our broad range of experience and our strong brands, we aim to increase and take market share in all four of these divisions, both in Sweden and on the international market," says Allan Ladow, Atlas Design's CEO and partner. Atlas Design was founded in 1943 by the Ladow family. Its head office in Gothenburg employs 60 people and the company has affiliates in Denmark, the UK, Norway, Germany and Italy. "The journey we have now embarked upon is really very exciting and the biggest single investment in the company's 65 year history. In the Sixth Swedish National Pension Fund, we have acquired a committed partner and the structural and financial muscle that we need for this expansion," says Allan Ladow. 01/11/2008 12:05 | I must admit that I think that the DKNY deal will be the saving of MPH, DKNY are massive and I should think they would not like the new menswear lines to fail especially after sinking their goodwill into MPH, there could be tens of million of pounds of orders for their own retail outlets, never mind the rest of the world. There is a risk, but the upside could be huge. | dan de lion
31/10/2008 17:25 | seems people are forgetting someone put in 2.5 million pounds and directors bought a new deal with DKNY they should know more than us. I will take a chunk after elections in US. | eagle eye3
