As they are in a niche market comparators to the wider home construction sector are not readily available. The FT point about McCarthy’s customers needing to sell into the wider market is valid but if that were to be an issue the Company could perhaps use a bit of creative marketing like offering to take their customers’ properties off their hands, like the mainstream builders do (they may already do this as far as I know).

I notice their p/e for example is a little higher than the likes of Persimmon and Berkeley by approximately that figure so maybe that's what they mean by a premium.

In a recent IC article they made a number of key points in support of their buy tip:
· Strong BS, raised £336m on floatation
· Added 40 sites (1700 plots)
· Landbank c10,800 plots (5.6 years supply)
· Three years’ worth already with planning consent
· By 2033 c17.2m over-65s (c25% of population)
· Current over-65s own 4.7m mortgage free properties (c£874bn)

I’m quite happy to buy and hold these.

Comment in the FT quoted them as saying that the slowdown in the housing market due to falling prices and fewer houses sold would make it more difficult for older people to sell and buy a MCS property - leaving the predicted profits 60% too high in their opinion.

Did they say on what metric they were at a 30% premium?

As Zho said they believed MCS could not justify a 30% premium to the sector. They believe the housing market will slow due to Brexit and will hit MCS.

Am not too worried by this MCS floated at 180 and well off highs of 295 but hopefully next update will be the key.

Alliance headline said "UBS initiated retirement housebuilder McCarthy & Stone at Sell, as it believes the shares are trading at an unjustified premium to the sector..."
