07/11/2017 16:03 | Marks and the rest of the retail are all advertising but with less money in peoples bank it will make not boost sales. | simon templar qc
07/11/2017 15:52 | www.marksandspencer. Please do your own research. | qantas
07/11/2017 15:34 | willoi At least u are on the ball, money in the UK drying up some on here just will not admit it. | simon templar qc
07/11/2017 15:20 | The trouble with all these importers is that they think that they can import everything and somehow wealth will created in the UK by somebody else. The more money they ship abroad, the less people have to spend in UK. If we do not support UK industry, who is going to. Car sales are well down also. The chickens are coming home to roost. | willoicc
07/11/2017 13:48 | New Look in deep trouble same old story High St sales slump.. | simon templar qc
07/11/2017 13:44 | Unusually busy this thread today. Interim results tomorrow. Looking forward to what the CEO says. | freedom97
07/11/2017 13:21 | It's nice clear day today hope you are paid well. | qantas
07/11/2017 13:14 | QANTAS You are wandering around lost in the fog, you are unable to see the wood for the trees. All the information out there points out to a grim outlook for most High Street retailers and you refuse to look at the evidence . | simon templar qc
07/11/2017 12:39 | Next is the least of their troubles the competition goes far beyond them indeed they are and will continue to suffer as the brand deteriorates under the same pressures. The fact that the customer base is shrinking should bother you and the fact that nothing stays a tradition for ever is very clear here the figures speak for themselves.A word of warning be very careful about loyalty in every aspect of your life but I warn you there is no future loyalty here, change is happening far quicker than you think!Dont believe me but do believe the math and in every sense if you look this is clear. | 123trev
07/11/2017 12:11 | I get my underpants from Saks Fifth Avenue and have for decades - and yes, I get them online if I don't have a US visit scheduled. Trev, I agree with you that Marks cannot respond quickly to fashion changes - only my conclusion is that they shouldn't even try to. Trying to compete with the likes of Next was always a doomed plan. I bought in here when the new management said they were going to turn their back on that sort of thing and go back to basics. It doesn't in the least matter that customers are dying. For every customer that dies, someone passes from youth to middle age. The customer base for traditional, non-flashy merchandise replenishes itself. | grahamite2
07/11/2017 11:46 | My 18 year old son prefers to travel to London to the boutique type stores of Carnaby Street and the like. Yes , it is still going. Prefers the individually of small brands and they are not silly money. Having said that , he has bought things from Marks that he really liked. Our nearest proper Marks is a big store off the M25 , much easier for a youngster to pop into London on the train | ignoble
07/11/2017 11:43 | John Lewis weekly sales grimmer than they look, the group has far more stores that this time last year, I am not sure of % but its a few %. When one factors in new stores, like for like fall in sales must be nearer 5-7% | simon templar qc
07/11/2017 11:38 | grahamite that’s a little simplistic with all due respect but I suppose it would be interesting to see how sales of underpants have fallen year on year, lol. The thing is m&s fail at attracting a younger market in fashion etc and have done for a long time and because of their size are unable to react quickly enough to market change like smaller internet retailers can and believe me it changes overnight.Im over fifty and I can honestly say I haven’t bought anything from them in years the wife might buy some food now and again on the rare occasion she visits the high street but we mainly shop online it’s easier more convenient and far cheaper and again looking at their offerings online they don’t stack up on price imo and a lot of people I no seem to feel the same.Incidently I wear boxer shorts not underpants keeping up with the latest trends lol but did you buy your pants from them? | 123trev
07/11/2017 10:56 | Marks is part of the history of my life Yup , I am that old ! No body hopes they can survive and succeed more than I When Woolworths went I was in tears, lol Interesting point Trev that long term loyal customers are leaving this earth. I am to be one ...that is my day ruined Wife loves their food ...always buys the majority of our food from them ... | ignoble
07/11/2017 10:45 | John Lewis weekly sales no better down 3.7% This latest news just adds to the latest grim outlook for the High St. | simon templar qc
07/11/2017 10:44 | What constant change, Trev? A pair of underpants is a pair of underpants! Am I missing something? | grahamite2
07/11/2017 10:41 | Don't know about Paddington Bear more like Stockmarket Bears in this one. | montyhedge
07/11/2017 10:31 | Don’t think even Paddington can save this from a long and slow demise another BHS in the making in the end.The trouble is the competition is so great and these dinasors can’t keep up with the constant change and the fact that every year the customer base gets less and less as loyal customers leave this earth. | 123trev
07/11/2017 10:21 | M&S reveals Christmas advert starring Paddington Bear here it is.. 'M&S Christmas ad uses Paddington Bear to target family audience' Campaign, which makes debut on Tuesday, is linked to 90 products and has charity tie-in, echoing tactics used by John Lewis | philanderer
07/11/2017 10:11 | What are they up to ? "..BA also pledged to provide 'upgraded catering' in economy on long haul flights. No details were given but a source said it would involve 'better food', and more of it. Passengers have complained about the airline running out of food on flights, and not being offered enough drinks and snacks by cabin crew. "But BA confirmed it has no intention of re-instating free sandwiches, snacks and drinks on short haul flights." | philanderer
07/11/2017 09:53 | New Look paints a grim outlook... HTTPp://www.bbc.co.u | simon templar qc
07/11/2017 09:50 | Retail sales for October, most likely down due to the very mild weather we had, wasn't it warmest on record? so not many shopping for autumn/winter clothes. Should see big increase in clothing sales for November, due to the rapid change in weather. Will be interesting to see the December data for November. | freedom97 |
