IC TIP UPDATES:

There’s a new chairman at Marks and Spencer (MKS). Retail veteran and former Conservative MP Archie Norman will take over from Robert Swannell in September to assist recently-installed chief executive Steve Rowe in the turnaround of the high street stalwart.

Mr Norman also served as the chairman of ITV alongside chief executive Adam Crozier who announced his departure earlier this week. The market was clearly pleased with the announcement, sending the shares up more than 4 per cent in early trading. Buy.

Shades of ASDA ! However a good people man and knows his retail but times are tough out there and Marks is super tanker size - Will take all his skills to manage the new teams and get the ship to trim its course.

Sold into this rally for a 10% gain, retail sales generally are dire and any benefit from Norman will be against a very tough environment for retailers. Good luck all who remain.

I heard very positive comments on the BBC today about Archie Norman joining MKS.

You're right edward imo about the city will love his appointment. Look how the share price has responded today.
