Kbass,

I think the 'RBS pref @ 38p' is probably the Argon Capital passthrough of an RBS issue, min investment (face) being GBP 50,000 ie cost roughly GBP 19,000 plus accrued interest of approx GBP 3K. RBS Series 100 perpetual XS03238339042/87UB. Coupon is about 8.5%, for a yield of around 22%.

RBS.PL is a US$25 'face' pref earning 5.75% pa, currently priced just under US$ 10, for a yield of about 14.5%.

TMF has an active and v informative number of threads on Prefs and similar instruments on their Banking dicussion board.

Thanks zangdook.
I'd got 31 May penciled in but because I've yet to receive the money I presumed I'd got the date wrong.

With Lloyds 87% take up of the open offer I'm surprised this hasn't moved up. Still yielding 12.7%.

institutional opinion on RBS is changing- L series are now $10.70 ROCK ON - reckon RBS is gonna make it.....

Have a look at Bank of Ireland 13.375% bonds asking price 74p- they have been going up- recent results yesterday well received, capital ratios better, bond buyback underway which should net the co €500m in H1.

HALP is going up; stock overhang cleared the asking price can now move higher, maybe up to the preference prices

llpg also trades with accrued interest, at present that is quite a chunky figure because we are not far off dividend date. There is a risk it isn't paid in which case the accrued disappears into thin air. Thats why they are probably trading a little lower than they should. Don't think the payment will be skipped personally though. LLPF is a little more difficult to fathom. Should be trading considerably higher than where it is, somewhere in line with the c and d class prefs.

rat attack,
forgot to say, was told by Etrade that bond trading hours were 15 minutes inside share trading hours i.e. 08:45 to 16:15.

Of the statements last week, the Lloyds one was the worst in my view, very short on detail.

rat attack,

I use Etrade and did the same thing last week, there were problems with both LLPF and LLPG online quotes. I spoke to them and they have reported it to the back office to be fixed, but as Simon said above, you are far better to call through to the traders for a firm quote.

LLPG sells for 31p per share.

LLPF sells for £320 per share.

You are best to phone the broker for these as they are pretty illiquid and they should get you within the spread.
