The further investment variances relate to the unrealised mark to market impact of higher rates on the surplus assets in the annuity portfolio and the impact of the longevity assumption change, and although recognised in the operating profit this is just timing differences in the recognition of profits which average out to zero in the longer term. Simply, the headline lower operating profit is not a guide to performance, and the underlying cash flow and profit generation in the results is good, the boffins will recognise this when they do the analysis.

Yesterday I read about how angry companies are with valuations on the LSE and here is a good example of it. Will add if they drop it further in the coming weeks

A big fall! I got all excited for a minute then saw a paltry 3% off. Big fall is 10%!

Should have announced a share buyback. Disappointing results or not,the share price is still bombed out like it has been for the past few years so should have taken the opportunity to hoover up the cheap shares like many others are doing.

Why is profit after tax more than profit before tax ?

On the long game, this or a global tracker ETF?
I know which one I would be going for. Over 5 years

SWDA - 12.75% TR Annualised
LGEN - 1.03% TR Annualised
JGGI - 16.43% TR Annualised
Fundsmith Equity (featuring in the BestInvest "Dog" fund list) 11.7% Annualised

Sadly

My HY Bond fund TFIF has a 5 year annualised TR of 5.26%

So long term investment in underperformance ?

Well at least we know now.
A BIG fall..

Thats most of the dividend profit gone.

Yep if interest rates fall then dividend looks even better.
That is a good point.

A happy holder and over time it will be steady as she goes.

Perhaps a rocky few days / weeks ahead but in a year it will be over 260 again and the divi will look even better by then based on where interest rates will be.

Good luck all 👍🏻

My guess, FWIW, is that the markets will not be overwhelmed by these results. Nothing disastrous and we have an excellent dividend to keep us in boiled sweeties whilst we wait for better times. I reckon down rather than up...

With operating profit missing by c5-10%, and a silence on strategy, and the Dow falling yesterday, I reckon there could be shares to pick up here around 230p ish this morning.

Hope I'm wrong - LT holder here.

Tepid results. Negligible improvement in operating profit, 42% drop in profit after tax. Not an overly optimistic read!Final dividend upped to 14.63, ex date 25 April, paid 6 June.

They give Only a one year forecast on raising the dividend only 5%
Question is why?

If he'd said 5% every year fair enough - but by saying it for only 1 year it draws attention to it
as if there might be a problem to repeat it...

I agree, with interest rates sure to reduce during this year this will help the AUM profitability and hopefully start to see inflows again. I say keep the faith and keep investing. Got to be one of the safest dividends in FTSE which is yielding >8% GLA

The thing is in the short term it’s not worth the risk buying at this level and I would fully expect the share price to get back to £2 after dividend is paid so basically another one to watch for the lows I think.

everyone loves a rising dividend.
everyone hates a falling profit..
Does dividend trump profit?
No idea..
But gut feeling is NEXT years profits will
be higher.

Does it give a forward statement?

I say flat to moderately up. If it does fall significantly (over 5%) I'll buy more

In my opinion, steady as she goes and the focus on the divi growth is fundamental to the majority of the long termers on this board. As expect, the impact of interest rates on LGIM profit was evident, but due to their diversified portfolio they compensate in other areas of the business. The growth in PRT is most welcome and the comment for further divi growth in 2024 giving us a later return of 21,36p together with other potential options is confident news. LGEN strategy is one of organic and dividend growth and the main reason I am invested. Will add further before Ex-divi date as long as share price remains steady. GLA
