Luumäen jaloberylliä raakakivenä.
Toiminta jatkuu verkalleen rouva Jenni Haukion jaloberyllikorun sylttytehtaalla. Karelia Berylin jalokivikaivos on toiminut Luumäen Kännätsalossa viitisentoista vuotta. Sieltä löytyy maailmanluokan jaloberylliä.
Tieteellinen puoli on kulkenut koko ajan rinnalla.

— Louhos on tyhjennetty vedestä, mutta juuri muuta ei ole tänä vuonna vielä tehty, Karelia Berylin osakas, lappeenrantalainen Timo Rönkä kertoo.
Rönkä, Jukka Rusanen ja Jari Vepsäläinen perustivat Karelia Berylin 2000-luvun alussa. Se aloitti toimintansa samalla paikalla, jossa 1980-luvulla oli kolmen kiviharrastajan kaivosvaltaus. Tuona aikana löytyneestä; jalokivestä työstettiin koru tasavallan presidentin kanslialle.
Karelia Beryl perusti Kännätsaloon kaivospiirin ja toi mukanaan modernit työvälineet.
— Kun me aloitimme, siellä ei ollut kovin isoa monttua, sillä siellä oli louhittu vain käsipelillä;, Rönkä sanoo.

Jaloberyllistä on työstetty Kiinassa lohikäärmekoru.
 
Jalokiveä Kalevala Korulle
Kaivoksen tähänastinen huippukausi osui vuosille 2004—2007. Tuolloin jaloberylliä löytyi, ja Karelia Beryl toimitti sitä Kalevala Korulle, joka hyödynsi sitä Lähde-korusarjassa.
Viime vuodet ovat olleet hiljaisia yksin sen takia, että Rönkä on sairastellut. Toiminta ei kuitenkaan ole loppumassa eikä kaivosta olla sulkemassa.
— Toivottavasti pääsemme tänä kesänä töihin. Jatkamme päivä kerrallaan sen mukaan, mitä eteen tulee.
 
Joskus löytyy ja joskus ei
Jaloberyllin etsintää Rönkä vertaa kullanhuuhdontaan.
— Joskus löytyy ja joskus ei. Etsintä on kovaa työtä. 99 prosenttia työstä ei tuota tulosta. Etukäteen ei voi tietää, löytyykö mitään. Hukkavuosia tulee väistämättä. Ei auta muu kuin kaivaa ja toivoa, että jotakin löytyy.
Kännätsalosta on löytynyt myös savukvartsia ja pieniä määrin topaasia. Syvyyksissä on lisäksi ametistia.
 
Savukvartsille ei löydy markkinoita
Karelia Berylin varastossa on runsaasti laadukasta savukvartsia, mutta sille ei ole Suomessa markkinoita. Kukaan ei ole aiemmin pystynyt tarjoamaan sitä jalostukseen. Rönkä toivoo, että joku kotimainen valmistaja kiinnostuisi savukvartsista.
Yhtiö on tehnyt tiivistä yhteistyötä; Geologian tutkimuskeskuksen kanssa. Röngän mukaan yhteistyö on hyödyttänyt kaikkia. Luumäellä on vieraillut lukuisia kotimaisia ja ulkomaisia tutkijoita sekä geologian opiskelijoita.

Täysin kotimainen edustuskoru
Karelia Berylin 5,3 hehtaarin kaivospiiri sijaitsee Saarentien molemmin puolin. Yhtiö sai vuonna 2011 luvan tien siirtämiseen omalla kustannuksellaan muutaman sadan metrin matkalla, sillä esiintymä jatkuu tien alle. Tien siirto on tulevien vuosien asia.
Timo Rönkä on hyvillään tasavallan presidentin kanslialle lahjoitetusta jalokivikorusta.

Interesting to see that Patrick O'Sullivan has increased his holding in CGNR to 28% after recent dealings. I do think that if anything does come of this business over at CGNR with regards to Board changes, it will have a knock on effect here at KDR due to the financial and personnel connections between the two Companies. We continue to tread water here.

I can't see Rio wanting there assets attacked at this share price with continuing exploration revealing more and more the real potential. The secrets nearly out, all in black and white if you DYR. With Alrosa in our back garden having been impressed with our set up and stating there future growth will be concentrated on the Karelian craton. Rio better be quick. Share suspension and buy out looms...me thinks.

Looks like most have overlooked the comments made by a certain GTK guy.


If folk delve back five to six years ago way before we acquired Lahtojoki, you'll see some significant research of his on Lahtojoki and the area being extended into now.

That explains everything and the delightful cunctation used by The Prof and Co.

They need to promote kdr.
No one would give a stuff for placing if around 7p where I believe we should be.
But on the other hand is a major about to sign a deal so who cares

Hi Hoops you can't keep on doing that forever like these lot are doing eventually we end up with nothing as we are dilluted into oblivion which we are starting to see here with this never ending overhang .The BOD are as good as gone at CGNR will they learn any lessons here though ...I doubt it .

Only reason being the bod give nothing away yet build there own stake via wages taken in shares AND BUY SOME MORE OUT OF THERE OWN POCKET and with a promise of more to come .
