RNS Number:6649Q Swan(John) & Sons PLC 08 October 2003 JOHN SWAN & SONS PLC ("John Swan" or "the Company") Disposal of Surplus Property ("the Disposal") John Swan today announces completion of the sale of its wholly owned property, Powflats Farm ("Powflats" or "the Farm"). Powflats is situated at Broxburn, near Edinburgh, and covers an area of approximately 172 acres. It was originally purchased as a collection centre and livestock storage facility for use in conjunction with the Company's Edinburgh auction mart. Since closure of the mart, Powflats has operated as a working farm on which the Company has grazed and fattened its own livestock; profitability has been negligible. The net book value of Powflats was #125,000. It has been sold in 4 separate lots for a total cash consideration of #893,000; the profit on disposal, after expenses, is thus expected to be in the order of #750,000. The proceeds of the Disposal will, in the first instance, be applied to the reduction of borrowings. The sale of Powflats is consistent with the policy of John Swan's board to add value for shareholders by disposing of surplus assets. ++ END This information is provided by RNS The company news service from the London Stock Exchange END DISLVLFBXBBZFBV
