08/4/2001 00:47 | Take a look at www.privacy.net at the top there you'll see your IP number when you visit. It says "Your address is 000.00.00.00" or whatever. Can anyone tell me how I can get my web pages to note and display the IP number as the visitor arrives? Is it a bit of javascript or HTML code I need to add to my pages? Thanks in advance, will check back later. | oneliner
07/4/2001 23:02 | I just need the IP numbers displayed to deter some idiots. The local host 127.01 thing in IE is no use, I need the real IP number. Miser, your PC should surf via an anonymous ISP, one such in the US is Anonymiser.com, but I don't know if this is recommendable or not. There may be other ways to achieve anonymity, I'm not sure. | oneliner

07/4/2001 21:21 | PROBLEM is I can only find scripts that work with java-enabled Netscape, and I need one that works with Internet Explorer also. Seems that they don't exist and the only option may be a web host package/CGI or whatever. The applet option is very slow to load and not what I want. Anyone know of a Netscape AND Internet Explorer script that will display the visitor's IP number each visit? | oneliner
07/4/2001 19:42 | Thanks, problem is thats Netscape only. Have a nice weekend, Spongy. :-) | oneliner
07/4/2001 19:39 | try here just found it. If i remember correctly you will also need a java class file to go with any code, it will be named as per the name of the code. and have to be inserted into a folder called ''classes'' on your site. | spongy2
07/4/2001 19:34 | Hi Spongy, Greatly appreciate your trying to help. I have been to www.privacy.net and my knowledge is not good enough to detect the relevant js or html in the Source. I am sifting free js sites right now to try to find one, I have found an applet but it takes ages to load! | oneliner
07/4/2001 19:09 | The above is incorrect & I thought I had deleted the post. This is an HTML based page you're using, it won't let me put the full script down it just deletes it. It should tell the user where he came from ie:- the ip address, and worked ok about 5 yrs ago on one of my sites. nope 3rd attempt whatever I type it deletes. If you can get hold of coffee cup html editor it includes a lot of java etc that you can cut and paste into your index page. Failing that do a search for 'java scripts' you'll get a load of sites that have plenty of java on them, and getting the ip nbr is quite a common script. Also have you tried looking at the source on the page you want to emulate? | spongy2
07/4/2001 18:34 | I appreciate the offer, Martini, but I need the code so that I can do what Privacy.Net does. Many thanks, all the same! | oneliner
07/4/2001 18:23 | Some of the free webcounters you can sign up for will tell you the IP of the last 20 visitors. If you're interested, I think I still have some URLs somewhere. Bear in mind that the IP given is often not that of the individual computer, but that of a webcache belonging to the individual's ISP, although that's usually obvious from the name. | martinc
07/4/2001 14:13 | Spongy2, many thanks for that. However, does that javascript you printed also include the IP number they connect via, such as for example 164.20.300.5 or whatever number? Which code/call is the one that is for the IP connect number, is it "+where+" ? And does that script have to be within a tag? Thanks again for your appreciated help. | oneliner
07/4/2001 14:07 | what browser and operating system they are using. You can change the Font color, size, and text of the message if you wish. -- var where = document.referrer var name = navigator.appName var vers = navigator.appVersion document.write("...a // -- | spongy2 |
