Manchester United bond issue falls flat

Manchester United may be in contention for another Premier League title, but its success on the pitch has worked little magic in the City. The club's first bond issue, launched barely two weeks ago, has become one of the market's worst performers this year.

While the club has secured the £500m ($798m) funding that it needs to refinance its bank debt, the paper losses suffered by investors could affect its ability to return to bond markets.

The bid price of United's £250m of sterling-denominated bonds has dipped to 93% of face value

They own 13.5% of €5.8m (€783k)! At best another minority asset to be sold off to try and buy more time off the INM debtholders.

Hey BB - wouldn't quite say heavy on the ISEQ as I've seen much bigger volumes traded recently but decent all the same. Market needs to see decent improvement in results and outlook. Until then don't think it will move much. Offloading the loss-making Independent in the UK could provide a little bump in the meantime...

The paper also reveals that business advisers PwC, the Quinn Group's auditor, was "given comfort" by the Financial Regulator that action would not be taken against the company that would affect its ability to continue as a going concern in 2008.

It says the regulator also offered Quinn Insurance a derogation from insurance solvency rules to allow it to use a higher proportion of property assets to boost its reserves

Alexander Lebedev, who bought London's Evening Standard for £1 a year ago, is selling his stakes in the airline Aeroflot and in Russia's largest aircraft leasing corporation back to the Government.

He told The Times in an exclusive interview that the deals would earn him more than £450 million.

Mr Lebedev said that the cash was destined for new projects in Russia and that none would be spent on his burgeoning newspaper interests in Brita

THE CHIEF executive of State health insurer VHI has said the full extent of the losses incurred by Sean Quinn, owner of rival insurer Quinn Healthcare, on his failed investment in Anglo Irish Bank should be disclosed publicly as they were "relevant" for customers of that business.

In an interview with The Irish Times , VHI chief Jimmy Tolan said the scale of the losses was also relevant for suppliers of services to Mr Quinn's insurance business.

Sean Quinn lost €2.5 billion on his stake in Anglo Irish Bank, according to an internal report completed two weeks before the bank was nationalised a year ago.

A €200 MILLION payout shared by five children of Seán Quinn from his business group during 2008 was used to offset losses on the family's investment in Anglo Irish Bank, according to a spokesman for the family.

Its all about the DEBT and the creditors! EMPG like INM restructured once already last year but it was not enough to keep the wolves from the door for EMPG. How long before the INM €950m debt holders decide to do the same?
