"McPhy will deploy two hydrogen stations with a capacity of 400kg of hydrogen per day each, connected to a 1MW electrolyser in Dijon Métropole, France.

To promote and develop its hydrogen infrastructure, Dijon Métropole has created, with Rougeot Energie, the project company Dijon Métropole Smart EnergHy (DMSE).

The first step of the deployment plan is to implement, in the north of Dijon, a McPhy hydrogen solution composed of two hydrogen stations, coupled with on-site hydrogen production.

Four distribution terminals for both heavy and light vehicles will be available to supply a fleet of hydrogen vehicles, which will initially be made up of 27 buses, nine garbage trucks and around 15 light vehicles.

The project is expected to reach a total of 200 buses, 50 garbage trucks and 250 light vehicles by 2030".

"Did you know there’s a hotel in Kawasaki City, Japan that creates hydrogen from waste plastics to supply about 30% of its energy needs?

Pioneered by Japanese multinational conglomerate Toshiba, the hydrogen hotel, formally known as the Kawasaki King Skyfront Tokyu REI Hotel, was opened in June 2018.

In the first year after its opening, the hotel ran a test in which it recycles even the amenities used in hotel rooms, such as toothbrushes and hair combs, as feedstocks for hydrogen production".

"The Scottish Government is investing £300,000 in a new hydrogen accelerator, located at the University of St Andrews, to help maximise the economic opportunities for the shift to zero or ultra-low emission mobility solutions.

As part of the project, the university, in partnership with institutions across Scotland, hopes to propel innovations in hydrogen technology and encourage knowledge-sharing to support transport applications and sustainable mobility".

"Would you agree that hydrogen interest in the UK has increased massively recently?

Yes, over the last six months especially. There are so many people not just interested in hydrogen, but actually doing things with it. An increasing number of vehicle manufacturers are developing fuel cell electric vehicles, but they need to find a reliable way to access hydrogen. We’ve had enquiries from a number of companies running vehicle test tracks, wanting to offer a hydrogen refuelling capability to assist the manufacturers.

The European Hydrogen Strategy document has just come out, there’s lots going on. We’ve noticed there are hubs being established, with solutions being implemented at a local level to supply hydrogen to small fleets of cars, vans and buses. Things are starting to move quite quickly".

"A groundbreaking ceremony has been held in Bremervörde, Germany for the “world’s first” hydrogen station for passenger trains.

Construction is due to start in September and follows a successful 18-month trial of the world’s first two hydrogen trains in the region.

Linde will build and operate the station on behalf of the Lower Saxony Regional Transport Company (LNVG)".

"“We see hydrogen as a potential ‘new wave’ oil and gas, and we are committed to supporting the growth and development of this market in the UK and worldwide.”

Those were the words of Jake Martin, Commercial Manager for Hydrogen at Chesterfield Special Cylinders (CSC). The UK-based high-pressure gas containment specialist revealed in early July that it had signed a five-year Framework Agreement with Shell Hydrogen to supply hydrogen storage cylinders for use at refuelling stations across Europe".
