DT - doing it the way you do is not the way to win. You can only make yourself unhappy. You have to be unemotional about investing and never feel threatened by the consequences of losing. Basically that means only investing what you can afford to lose and writing it off the moment you have thrown your hat into the arena.

You need to step back DT, you haven't changed since Hoc's share price started with 3!

I sold near the highs and bought back in at 170, PM's are very cyclical at the moment so whilst I cant hit the bottom I don't think there is much more downside. I feel exactly the same as I did the last time it was down here, its a waiting game before it heads up again.

Thank you David, Charles and Max.

I guess it’s just me putting pressure on myself to do my best for them. At 2.5 years and 4 years old I need not worry. They will be ok. I keep reminding myself the sector is out of favour. But sentiment will change.

I appreciate the support. Just got to keep averaging down.

It's good to see the supportive comments on this board. This has been one of the longest and severest downturns that I can remember since 2003. I also own some of these. I have no doubts HOC will come good over the next few months along with other quality PM stocks.

DT

I occasionally feel like that. I got so annoyed once that things weren't going my way that I stopped dealing and walked away. I ignored my investment account and got on with other things. When I later returned, I was very surprised to find that my portfolio had done very well without me! LOL

Ive tried to show relative performance of HOC against other silver miners with similar percentage silver ratios. I've taken it from the low in 2016 till now, as this might be a reflection of likely performance going forward, when the PM bull continues. HOC to me has been really quite resillient in this market by comparison.

When you want the silver leverage effect, it works both ways...so the ride is bumpy...imo.

for ref:
HOC = Red
FR = Blue
FRES = Green
PAAS = Purple
FSM = Orange
WPM = Brown

With stocks and shares you just have to do your research the best you can, then buy and HOLD your selected stocks. The market is approaching a point where PM supplies are running out and at the same time prices are converging to cost of production. This cannot continue without a price increase or producers will start to go out of business. Either scenario will produce higher prices. Relax...

DT weigh up the risk to reward at this juncture.
Do you see the shareprice going to zero? I dont.
Do you see upside potential in the next 20 years. I do.
If it's for your kids, i cant see the problem. If the timeframe is much shorter, then riding out the troughs can be a mental challenge. Has the reason/potential value you purchased this for changed, or simply the price?

One day the stock I chose for my young children will do well... silver will enter a bull market with gold at some point. Then from a low base this will multi bag. And all the cost averaging I have done will come good. Until then, in their little ISAs, daddy made a serious error buying this shyte.

• Gold is on track for its biggest one-day price decline since mid-August after the U.S. dollar rose to approach its highest level in nearly two months; Comex gold currently -1.3% to $1,189.70/oz., and silver -2.3% to $14.31/oz.
• The greenback jumped last week after a series of upbeat U.S. economic data that should keep the Federal Reserve on track to raise interest rates again before year-end.
• “Gold’s weakness is not just due to the stronger dollar, but the rising yields, too,” says Forex.com technical analyst Fawad Razaqzada. “Together, these factors are proving to be a toxic mix for the non-interest-bearing and buck-denominated commodity... Unless at least one of these influences are not put right, gold will struggle to sustain any rally."
• Adding to the jittery mood, China’s central bank yesterday lowered the level of cash commercial central banks need to keep in reserve.

Q3 results next week:

Oct 17, 2018. Q3 2018 Hochschild Mining Production Results

Greyerz: "Precious metals are showing clear signs of ending the long downward correction since the 2011 peak. Once the turn is confirmed, which could be very soon, the 18 year bull market in gold and silver will resume to new all-time highs and beyond."

Rick Rule: "We’ve been in a 35 year bull market in the dollar and a 35 year bull market in US 10-Year Treasuries, so my suspicion is that the Treasury bull market and the dollar bull market are either at the top or very close to the top. If I’m right about that then a gold bull market is probably in the process of ensuing."
