15/1/2013 09:47 | What really disgusts me, yet again days before a company goes bust the directors are still issuing positive statements, personally I would like to see that stopped as all it does is to suck in the small private investor to buy shares, to lose his money allowing the corporate boys time to still get out. | loganair
15/1/2013 09:41 | I truly hope we don't lose HMV off my local high street as with-in the past year we have lost Clinton Cards, Dixons, Game and Jessops. These companies are being replaced by either boutique shops such as Tink, Cath kidson and Joules or Coffee shops. Even though they were over priced, Clinton Cards was were I bought Birthday and Christmas Cards for both my wife and son. We're now left with either just Card Factory or WH Smith. If HMV was to close in my local High Street the only place that is really left to me to buy DVD's is Amazon. I thought the changing of the VAT regime for the Channel Islands was supposed to have helped HMV, over Christmas is obviously didn't. All it did was to close Play.com with the loss of over 140 jobs in Jersey which if it had been on the mainland of the UK would have been the equivalent of over 100,000 jobs being lost. Therefore the closing of the VAT loophole has seemed to have only benefited Amazon, a company that pays little to no corporation tax here in the UK. In the 1970's with-in 400yds of the city centre there were only 5 places were one was able to buy a cup of something, today there is now 54 with another due to open very soon. | loganair

15/1/2013 08:50 | surely the spike a few weeks ago to 4p should be investigated ! blatant insider dealing to allow someone to get out !!! | fxscotland
15/1/2013 08:24 | Interesting interview with R Peston on R4 just now - he seems to think they will survive in one shape or form. | skinny
15/1/2013 08:24 | Certainly will jim. Eventually! | smelgy
15/1/2013 08:22 | Hi Smelgy - only a small loss. You can't win them all. Should more than make up for this loss over at pfd. | jimrclark
15/1/2013 08:16 | Well that little punt didn't go as planned. I was expecting them to last at least until Thursday with at least one rumour of a white knight charging over the horizon. Lesson learnt! | jimrclark
15/1/2013 08:10 | nghomi - 17988 - We are all BUST, thanks to Cameron and his cronies, indeed MP's of all the main parties over the years. They don't give a damn about the man in the street. The only way is OUT of the EU for a start. That would save us £53m PER DAY. Thnink about that when your hospital A&E closes. | smelgy
15/1/2013 08:07 | "Disgusting considering that HMV were selling gift cards to the masses throughout Christmas. " Agreed, but there were plenty of warnings in the press. Thats said there is a 'slim' chance that any buyer may reinstate them for goodwill purposes. Its a good brand, I have little doubt that the brand will survive online at the very least. I'd be surprised if someone does not jump in and buy circa 50-100 stores, they may even make a go if it. With the high debt and over 200 stores HMV Group plc never had a chance, with a clean start who knows HMV could be on the high street for a few more years. | graham2405
15/1/2013 08:00 | Disgusting considering that HMV were selling gift cards to the masses throughout Christmas. Even Jessops had £800k outstanding on gift cards. What will the number be for HMV? | manics
