HiWave's BMR speaker drivers help Revo win What HiFi's best radio award two years running
Cambridge, UK, October 23, 2012: HiWave Technologies(LSE:HIW), a provider of innovative audio amplifier ICs, full frequency range speaker drivers and next generation haptic touch devices, has announced its BMR speaker drivers have been adopted by Revo to create the Axis and Axis XS, What Hi-Fi's radios of the year for 2011 and 2012.
The two internet / DAB+ radios with iPhone docking and PC audio streaming use a HiWave HiBM36S05-4 BMR to create a full audio-frequency range (100Hz to 20kHz) with a maximum sound pressure level of 79dB at 1m. The Axis XS also integrates Bluetooth connectivity for smartphone audio streaming.
The judging panel at What Hi-Fi, the world's leading home entertainment magazine, said the Revo Axis "sounds great" and "put simply, this is the most effective radio we've tested all year." This was backed up in tests run the world's best selling gadget magazine, Stuff, who said the use of HiWave's BMR driver "delivers a solid, punchy sound with plenty of low-end grunt" and it "produces lots of detail".
In its latest awards, announced in the November 2012 What-HiFi, the judging panel said: "The original Axis wowed us last year, and the new XS is even better." The magazine's five-star product review stated the Axis XS "keeps a firm hand on midrange and ensures that treble frequencies never become hard or unruly".
The Axis XS is the third What Hi-Fi award winner in just two years to use HiWave's BMR technology. In 2011 a pair of 24W USB powered speakers, which also used HiWave's amplifier chips, won accessory product of the year.
HiWave's balanced-mode radiators have an extended frequency response and wide directivity compared with conventional drive units. They combine the benefits of HiWave's bending-wave technology and pistonic modes of operation and are ideally suited for compact audio applications that require a full-range, high performance acoustic solution.
