Looks like we didn't suffer too bad nor did other golds considering gold/USD etc today, fingers crossed for a good evening on the gold front.

I don't agree, all the people I know that have gone in crypto would have even considered gold- as I have said before, the spending on gold has not decreased, a new market was created with crypto, social media causing hype- a small portion may have switched early days, but different product and drivers. Where I do agree, is most people have used savings and borrowed, again, new speculators, gold/gold stocks wouldn't have even been on their radar- when I speak to friends, they know binance, e-toro, when I mention on line stockbrokers they look puzzled!

I understand that upwards of half the money that's gone in to Crypto would have gone into Gold.

There are too many people who are in Crypto's who do not know what they are doing, often putting in their entire savings because they think they are going to make many many times the money they originally put in. I am very care not to say 'Invested' as I do not consider Crypto to be and 'Investment' rather more 'Speculation.'

There are many people who bought in at $20,000 are now nursing nearly 50% losses.

It seems to me, the biggest gain came with Bitcoin first came out 10 of US cents to $20,000 is the biggest gain and the likes will not be seen again in any Crypto.

All goldies down- dollar strong v GBP but marginally weaker against EURO- need weaker dollar! Could do with a miss on Friday on non-farms, and/or some wobbles ref: current anticipated hike this month. Ref crypto- red herring. I do both as do many of my friends- we hold crypto "long" for FOMO, and short when no sports worth betting on for some fun to make a quick overnight gamble. I don't know of anyone who buys crypto who would have bought gold- wasn't even on their radar. Crypto will gain, even Carney admits to interfaces, which ones? Who knows.......

srp - There is definitely as lack of interest in Gold compared to the interest being shown in Cryptocurrencies.

When I was young, one could pop into any high street bank in the UK and buy a gold coin or and ounce bar, now the Retail Investor can no longer do so.

Cryptocurriencies are not very safe, around $1bln worth was stolen through hacking during 2017.

I understand that at least 20% is lost through their owners losing passwords etc.

I also understand that around 50% of cryptocurrencies are owned by about only 4,000 people.

As I hear so often, it is the Retail Investor who is usually holding the losses as they are the Last Out.

I do no understand why anyone would invest 'speculate' in cryptocurrecies instead of gold or gold miners?

3 years ago there were less than 100 cryptocurrencies, at the beginning of 2018 there were around 1,200 and every few days another one is launched.

It seems to me there is a Hyperinflation of cryptocurrencies, almost anybody can come to market with their own cryptocurrencies. I have just heard that a musician 'rapper' is launching his own cryptocurrency.

UEN buynote released... Solid operational update issued, Almost 100% buys, very few avaliable, 1 MM left on offer..

www.branduk.net

Summary

"Summary: Although the UEN share price drifted lower for the majority of 2017, the developments at the South Dagi oil prospect has seen shares double in value in a very short space of time. As I would expect with oil E&P stocks, the low VectorVest RS rating may see cautious investors look elsewhere, but nonetheless, UEN fundamentals, earnings growth and current valuation gap all add up to a highly attractive oil sector play at this moment in time. Buy.

Dr David Paul"

Thank you and agree, but personal ones are wrong,
I only post the truth what I hold and think, sometimes
as said I get it wrong, sometimes right, but always
honest.

If hgm can close above 150.3p and 151.8p we should
move up,fingers crossed, dyor, dyor, and I forgot to say
dyor.

Thanks Loganair. Good to see hgm recover, was getting a bit worried as it seem to be suffering and yet gold was up, dollar down etc etc, thought we may be going into the 3rd "weird, unexplainable drop" but it didn't happen- made the mistake of cashing in a gold short mid-morning, made good money but could have been more, but petty cash compared to my stakes in gold stocks so happy. SR don't worry on negative posts, they just wash over me unless they are backed up with rationale, then they are worth reading even when I don't agree.

More on the share buy backs in the US, since 2012 they have accounted for 72% of earnings growth instead of this money being used to help and support the long term economy.

I was also interested to hear that the amount of energy used in the block Chains for the cyptocurrencies is the equivalent to that used by Denmark.

Yes Loganair- there is so much "murk" around at the moment- the Non-Farms will be key Friday, but not normally as key as USA wage growth stats which if higher than anticipated are seen as pre-cursor to inflation increase- we need a "miss" here ideally, not sure of the date of these. There's a great site "tradingeconomics.com" with all the dates etc for every country- I warn you though it can eat up hours and hours, but is fun- ultimately though, like all of this, it providers drivers for change and in the past I used to sell before but even though I was correct after results, the impact was much smaller, and the following hours something else came along which meant I shouldn't have sold! All is a gamble- but generally probability rules 90% of the time, this is why I like HGM as ace fundamentals and divis :-).
