I'm not sure there are 'no brainers'. Who would have expected WWIII right on the heels of CV19... what's next? Nevertheless, I'm buying for pretty much the same reason - and very happy to trouser circa 8% in regular quarterly chunks while I wait to see what happens.

Every time I can lock in a yield here of 8% or more (bought some at 277p earlier last week for a yield of 8.49%), I always add to my holding.

Given that the horrors of Ukraine will eventually come to an end, and Putin will either be tried for war crimes or assassinated (hopefully, and the current regime overthrown, markets will eventually soar worldwide.

To buy these sub £3 for the eventual massive surge in markets is a virtual no-brainer in my view.

Dave Baxter (IC) did a note on income plays around the world in this weeks mag. HFEL was mentioned with the high yield. He highlighted that NAV performance has been positive in recent weeks yet the shares have still suffered and a 12 month high has emerged on the discount front.

That may have stimulated some buying, yesterday/today.

Can't see a cut in the div in the short / med term Did re read the annual report too before adding 15 years of div income growth and only one year uncovered Obviously not all natural yield - options used to enhance but still pretty impressive stuff Half years reserve left

I've been adding as well. Last purchase this morning at a tad under 282. A yield of 8.4%, paid quarterly, was just too good to miss. All the shares I bought higher up are well under the water, but value stocks will recover and that income is now locked in.

I'm in now. The nav is about flat for the year so far which is amazing really. This trust is full of value type stocks and will outperform in this environment.

IMHO - the HFEL share price has come out of an horrendous week pretty much as well as might have been expected? - down by just 1.7% to 291p from 296p (WoW). But no one can see much past the present moment, right now, given fast-moving events in Europe.

Meanwhile, HFEL's closely watched TNAV (per share) will remain in sharp focus. It's declaration on 18/2/22 was 294.1p per share. This had fallen by circa 2.6% to he latest (25/2/22) 286.5p. Maybe the 2.6% reduction is a more accurate reflection? - equating to a circa 1.6% premium, being a low-ish premium v HFEL's (closer to 5%?) norm.

South Korea and Singapore have been hit by big Covid outbreaks as well but it looks like they and Hong Kong might all be peaking. China is only just taking off.

Presumably calls for a total 9-day lockdown in Hong Kong in 23 days time (surely that will be after it's finished?) and spread into China appear to be undermining Far East shares?
