Haverty Furniture Announces Promotions 


ATLANTA, May 13  /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- At the annual meeting of the Board
of Directors of HAVERTY FURNITURE COMPANIES, INC. (NYSE: HVT; HVT.A) held
today, the Board announced the promotion of Robert H. Kirchmeyer, B. Gregory
Davis, and Richard D. Gallagher.

Robert Kirchmeyer was promoted to Vice President, Merchandising.  He joined the
Company in 1983 and was elected Assistant Vice President, Merchandising in
2002.  Prior to his election as an officer in 2002, Mr. Kirchmeyer served in
various capacities in store operations including Assistant General Manager and
Merchandise Coordinator of the Company's Dallas/Ft. Worth stores.

Greg Davis was promoted to Assistant Vice President, Information Systems
Development.  He joined Havertys in 1990 as Project Leader.  Mr. Davis most
recently served as Systems Development Manager and was instrumental in the
design and development of the Company's new store and distribution information
systems.

Richard Gallagher was elected Assistant Vice President, Store Operations. He
joined Havertys in 1988 as a sales associate in the Company's Tallahassee,
Florida store.  Mr. Gallagher has served in various capacities in store
operations including general manager in four progressively larger markets.  He
was most recently Havertys' Director of Store Operations during which time he
also served as interim regional manager of Havertys' Mid-South Region.
