Could higher interest rates curtail US shale? Hope so. Source oilprice.com Interest rates could hit oil companies. Oil drillers depend on debt to a large degree and the prospect of higher interest rates presents a substantial risk to the industry, according to a new report from Columbia University. An increase in global interest rates by about two percentage points, for example, would wipe out all of the efficiency gains achieved by the industry over the past three years. With the Fed slated to slowly tighten the screws, costs could rise in the years ahead. "Low interest rates have been a major contributor to the shale boom," Amir Azar, author of the report and a fellow at Columbia's Center on Global Energy Policy. Higher interest rates may not "reverse the boom, but it could make a lot of shale production uneconomic."

When I woke up this morning and saw the oil price had plummetted again, I really did think we would be low 50s today, so I guess I shouldnt moan about unchanged on the day.

Thing is though, the flow of sell orders onto the book is still incessant, even at these levels.

AT trades make up only 26% of the trades, so you know MMs are diverting all the important stuff off SETS.

Thing is that 26% directly affects the price, whereas the 74% doesnt....the madness of SETSMM

In the last 20 minutes there have been 793541 buys and 139894 sells and the impact on the sp?

Dropped a penny!

Purely because very few of the buys get put through the order book

Yet more shorters being allowed to close their positions

The same question exists as always - where has the stock come from to meet the buys?

Didn't take them long to get back to yesterdays close did it?

This share is so, so weak that not even solid buying can save it.

Pitiful
