Posted at 21/2/2012 17:30 by gbb483 Anyone know anything about WEIR (yes, I know I'm asking on the HMY thread)? |
Posted at 30/11/2011 11:03 by alter ego good spot Piedro, it's not even on HMY web site yet. The company has poured a lot of R&D money into getting the technology they acquired with Greenships to work. It's a real bummer that shareholders are seeing this disappear along with all their other innovative technology. Still hoping for a better offer though. |
Posted at 28/11/2011 16:42 by alter ego Piedro, yes I'm afraid HMY is going to be bought out. The directors have agreed a bid so the only way the takeover will fail is if the majority of shareholders don't accept. I can't see that happening as the Institutions aren't known for their reluctance to take a profit. They may hold back though to see of there's a better offer. I'm doing just that too. |
Posted at 18/11/2011 12:34 by alter ego I agree with the cyclicality argument and am grateful Wartsilla didn't make their move 18 months ago. However, as a LTBH type investor, cycles are part of life and provide opportunity for top ups so long as the underlying business has a good future. I've been an investor in HMY since 2004 and have watched it grow in that time. The growth isn't about to peak anytime soon IMO. |
Posted at 18/11/2011 11:43 by alter ego I'm not just "quite sorry" to see them go, I'm very disappointed to be losing such a high quality stock from my portfolio. This is one which I had hoped would continue to grow year by year and become a much larger company with a correspondingly much higher market cap. Finding high quality stocks in the small cap sector is never easy so losing one as good as HMY is a real problem for investors in this space. Whilst £8.25 might look tempting today, especially if you simply trade for a quick buck, my bet is that it would look measly a few years down the line - which is no doubt exactly why Wartsilla are bidding.Given the strong position the company are in, I find it hard to see the logic of accepting a bid now. Short termism will no doubt win out again though. |

Posted at 04/11/2011 23:08 by alter ego Piedro, you've never offended by posting, so please continue to express your views. Gbb483, I haven't overlooked the 30% drop. I thought £7 was way too high and sold. By the same token, £5 was way too cheap so I bought. I'm just surprised at how quickly perception can change despite most of the fundamental information being well known. For what it's worth, I think HMY is a great business and my biggest holding by far but every stock has a fair value and to me, without fresh evidence of higher growth, we are getting close to over-valuation again. Interims will reveal whether or not that is the case. |
Posted at 04/11/2011 15:52 by piedro There was HMY news before the rise .... but asit seems that I have caused offence by posting too often ..... .... I have been keeping quiet. DYOR. |
Posted at 03/11/2011 10:24 by alter ego and interims due on 22nd. should keep HMY in focus. |
Posted at 03/8/2011 16:09 by alter ego MHI have certainly been customers in the past and HMY have supplied water treatment/ desalination equipment for AIDA cruise ships (in 2008 and 2009). Note that this order is for Carnival (an existing HMY customer) not for Princess Cruises, they were just mentioned here as a previous customer of MHI. Fincantieri were most recently customers in June when HMY won an order to supply MBR's to two ships coincidentally being built for Princess Cruises.I would be pretty confident about HMY getting work from this as they seem to have the cruise market pretty well sewn up given the track record and the continuous advances made in the technology. Any chance we will see exhaust gas treatment too? Would be nice. |
