15/2/2017 13:48 | WMH have some nice online assets that would be worth picking up, including UK, Spain, Italy and Australia businesses. As Festario says, the name also is worth having. | investmentguru
15/2/2017 13:46 | The big online asset WMH was after, and got, when SBT was split between them and GVC was Australia. They also agreed a 12 month call option on the Spanish online business that allowed GVC to run the business, but they then exercised the option to take it over. So, there are at least two areas that I would have thought GVC would want in any split of WMH. | mylands
15/2/2017 13:05 | Yeah agreed and it does make profits to the tune of £260 million what profits does gvc make ? Wmh share price is getting hammered due to the fobt problem however Imo nothing will happen to effect the profits they make too much money for no 11 and without taxes will have to go up from elsewhere | catswhiskas
15/2/2017 13:05 | Srpactive, your transaction analysis makes sense to me; timing less certain. | mnomis
15/2/2017 12:52 | There is much value in the William Hill brand name. | festario
15/2/2017 12:52 | Ok - a little research came up with online as 35% of revenue in 2015 for WMH. WMH might be a good candidate as long as its broken up. It still looks like KA has looked at WMH and not liked what he saw. CM. | cheshiremoggie
15/2/2017 12:47 | Hi srp. My question would be - if you strip out the retail shops - What is left? How much of WMHs business is Online and how much bricks and mortar? I haven't done the research but I suspect - without retail there is very little left. Why buy/merge with WMH when without the retail shops the company is nearly worthless? GVC could bid for the online portion if WMH is broken up but only KA and team could determine if that is worthwhile and - judging by the recent talks, KA has looked at WMH and said "you have nothing to offer me or GVC". Your idea of private equity and GVC teaming up could work but you would have to find a private equity firm willing to take the chance on the ex parrot squawking one last time. I'm not sure you will find one.... Please be aware that, as my wife tells me, I am always wrong. CM. | cheshiremoggie
15/2/2017 12:24 | It was me Mylands, but I'm bored of it now. | festario
15/2/2017 12:00 | Who was it who posted recently that we needed a period of no movement in the share price to consolidate the recent gains? Well, they seem to have got their wish with the share price hovering around the 700p mark. I've been topping up with the div funds when the price dips below 700p. Looks like others have the same idea. | mylands
15/2/2017 11:59 | cm As we have discussed before, the only way forward for wmh, is for gvc and private equity to bid together for wmh. Gvc take the online, private equity the shops. Then all win, gvc have the online, pe have cash cow and wmh have KA running all. What do you think of that scenario? dyor regards active | srpactive
15/2/2017 11:53 | As far as I can see William Hill has very little that GVC would want and William Hill would be desperate to have what GVC have. In gambling terms bricks and mortar is a dead duck - deceased. An ex parrot. William Hill is therefore basically the same with just a long slow decline to come weighed down by over 2000 slowly rotting parrots. CM. | cheshiremoggie

15/2/2017 09:19 | New HSBC note out today. Negative on bricks and motar bookies, thus could there be some switching to GVC? By James Cone (Bloomberg) -- William Hill and Ladbrokes Coral cut to reduce from hold, Paddy Power Betfair to hold from buy at HSBC today in note on U.K. bookmakers. * HSBC sees potential customer slowdown and increasingly regulatory risks for sector, with longer-term concerns “large and not fully in valuations” * Says a slowdown by no means certain, but in bear case could see ~10% decline in retail revenue and Ebitda downgrades of 20%-30% * Also notes strong online competition, toughening of regulation and higher taxes and levies * U.K. investigation into fixed odds betting terminals due April/May, sees shares “implicitly GBP10-20 maximum limit from current GBP50 soft threshold * NOTE Feb. 12: Biggest William Hill Investor Urges Sale, Sunday Times Reports * NOTE Jan. 31: Ladbrokes Coral Drops as MPs Set to Call for Terminal Limits | brownie69

14/2/2017 10:59 | It's not how big it is, it's what you do with it... | woodhawk

14/2/2017 10:47 | Some of my divi proceeds will go towards flowers, chocolates and a bit more for my other half.Cmon guys thats what GVC intended us to do ! :o) | nurdin
14/2/2017 10:44 | All hail The Investment Guru! | festario
14/2/2017 10:39 | Many thanks again to InvestmentGuru and Festario for that excellent advice 6 years ago! | andyj56
14/2/2017 10:37 | Dividend fully received but not fully re-invested as the other half needs house keeping which she claims has been withheld whilst the div pause has been in effect! Great to have the div flow re-instated. Good to see the trades going through that are quite clearly shareholders re-investing their dividends, even at 700p. | mylands
14/2/2017 10:34 | This Div has been an awfully long time coming! Looking forward to the regular resumption of dividends. | investmentguru
14/2/2017 10:33 | Got my divi as well, earlier than expected | shayadfn
14/2/2017 10:07 | Dividend received and fully reinvested. | festario |
