2018 Harvest Report

We are pleased to announce that the 2018 harvest at Gusbourne has continued the precedent set in 2017, with yet another vintage of outstanding quality as well as record quantity.

Superb conditions throughout the growing season and in particular, during flowering in June and the warm, dry summer over the critical months of July and August resulted in the harvest commencing earlier than ever before. The grapes were wonderfully ripe, with optimum levels of natural sugar and acidity across all three varieties - Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier.

In accordance with our strict parameters in our quest to make only the best quality vintage wines from the highest quality grapes grown in our own vineyards, we green harvested a selected amount of fruit during the latter part of the growing season. Whilst this reduced the potential overall yield, it enabled the vines to enhance the ripening of their remaining clusters. This technique, combined with rigorously selecting only the best fruit for harvest ensures that we continue to focus on the quality of our wines as well as looking after the long term health of our vineyards. Following the green harvest we are pleased to report that the 2018 harvest has still managed to still achieve significantly increased and record yields.

Charlie Holland, Chief Executive Officer, commented:

"We are excited by the exceptional quality of the 2018 harvest. It has proved to be an outstanding year across the English wine growing community and I am delighted to report that this excellent crop will of course add to our growing stocks of premium sparkling wine. Our talented team continue to focus on quality in all aspects of the wine making processes, carefully selecting the grapes we use in our wines and caring for our vines for the long term."
