GDF-Suez, EDP Join Areva in French Offshore Wind Farm Bid

French power utilities GDF-Suez and ADP Renewables, part of Portugal's Energias de Portugal (EDP.LB) group, have decided to join French nuclear technology group Areva (AREVA.FR) to submit tenders for two offshore wind farm projects in France.
MAIN FACTS:
- The companies will bid for 500-megawatt wind farms to be built at Le Treport, in the English Channel, and near the islands of Yeu and Noirmoutier, on the French Atlantic coast. .
- GDF-Suez is the leading producer of wind energy in France, and EDP Renewables is the third producer of wind power in the world. Together, the two groups have 36,000 megawatts of installed production capacity for renewable energy.
- The tenders will be submitted to the French Regulatory Commission of Energy by Nov. 29. A governmental decision is expected in 2014..

GDF Suez Grants $480 Million Contract To Alstom In U.S

GDF Suez Energy North America, a unit of GDF Suez SA (GSZ.FR), has awarded Alstom SA (ALO.FR) a long-term service contract to give its power plant fleet new flexibility, for EUR360 million or $480 million.
MAIN FACTS:
- Alstom will provide comprehensive maintenance services and gas turbine upgrade packages for four GDF Suez natural gas-fired power stations.
- The plants together use fourteen Alstom GT24 gas turbines and generate enough electricity to power more than three million homes in Texas and Massachusetts.
- Alstom's responsibilities for the Midlothian and Hays plants in Texas, and Bellingham and Blackstone power plants in Massachusetts include management and provision of replacement parts, technical field advisors and gas turbine services for their fourteen power generating units over the life of the contract.
- The first upgrade installation is scheduled for the fall of 2014.
- Alstom will upgrade the turbines with features enabling plant operators to switch between operating modes based on electricity market demand without taking the plant offline.

French power group GDF Suez SA (GSZ.FR) plans to partner with Portugal's EDP Renovaveis S/A (EDPR.LB) to bid for offshore wind farms in France, French business daily Les Echos reports Monday, citing unspecified sources.
After a first round of tender offers for four wind farms off the Northern and Western coast of France last year, the French government plans a second round for two farms, of 500 megawatts each, off the coast of Normandy by Le Treport and off the Western coastline of Noirmoutiers.
The bids must be submitted by Nov. 29.
A spokesman for GDF Suez declined to comment while no one at EDP Renovaveis was immediately available to comment.
EDP Renovaveis is a subsidiary of EDP Energias de Portugal SA (EDP.LB).

Sanofi (SAN.FR, SNY) and GDF Suez SA (GSZ.FR), through its subsidiary Cofely (GDF Suez Energie Services), Monday said they signed an agreement to strengthen their collaboration in energy savings at Sanofi industrial sites. The five-year contract includes mainly renewable energy production and distribution systems.
MAIN FACTS:
- Building on the success of the initial agreement signed in March 2012 for Europe and Turkey, the two groups have expanded their collaboration to now include sites in the U.S., Canada, Mexico, Brazil, China, and Singapore.
- All Sanofi's production lines will be covered: chemicals, pharmaceuticals, vaccines, biotechnology and animal health. The initial three-year term contract is extended to five years.
- Since the beginning of their collaboration in 2012, the two groups have launched five projects in France, Italy and Germany covering the installation of cogeneration or trigeneration gas turbines, and the construction of biomass boilers to improve the energy and environmental performance of these industrial sites.
- The co-investment related to these projects represents 30 million euros ($39.3 million) in 2013. In the framework of the expanded collaboration, the total co-investments could reach up to 80 million euros.
