As I said yesterday is the corporate activity out of weakness or strength? Some others are talking about doing the same. It may restart the idea of the 2 Swiss companies coming together?

I was looking to sell the other day but held off thinking/wishing the results might be better than forecast. Silly me. Oh well...at least I share now the sentiment of this GSK thread....The Recovery!

But rumour also has it that it was the Chinese who brought the virus into the country and accidentally broke the vial.

You have moved forward 2 months in 10 minutes is the positive way to look at things. Rumours overnight that Chinese have discovered an antidote.

It would be a different outcome if Emma had accurately forecast the market size for Shingrix, especially as it takes so long to build a new plant to satisfy demand.

That means technical as well as commercial incompetence.

I hope she gets it right with the COPD vaccine.

C_t_R : Agree - it doesn't make good business sense. Run it as a division, and you preserve a huge cash cow, without "losing focus" on the biopharma business.

But there's nothing new in this announcement, so what is it that affects the share price so much?

Header is prescient

Unless it recovers quickly to 1790, then I fear that the rise is over.

There was a clear uptrend from last October with a downward blip in December for a day.

Talk about wealth destruction...

"The break-up of GlaxoSmithKline is set to become one of the most expensive corporate demergers to date after the drugs group estimated that it would cost £2.4 billion. The FTSE 100 company yesterday issued details of its ambitious plans to spin-off its consumer healthcare joint venture with Pfizer via a listing on the London Stock Exchange in 2022. – The Times"

Will the demerged entities be worth more split than together (and dpnt forget the cash flow security/divi cover of the pharmaceutical arm foregone) merit such a split.

Suspect not.

Why on earth are they demerging the company.

Idiocy imo driven by greed.

Greed that the demerged entity will hopefully be worth more than the current conglomerate.

Bit of perspective..

"...GlaxoSmithKline was also lower in the wake of its fourth quarter numbers, although the drug giant's shares remained near a two-decade high."

I held these for 2.5 years or so, (sold out last May for a modest profit). They were £15 something. Two years ago at this time they were £12.80. The whole time I had them I think they breached £16 twice, and then went straight down again. £17.39 is like a dream to me (or would have been). Just shows how things can change. Now have a new portfolio where I need some similar action! At the £12.80 stage atm !!
