Then that is the Stock Market for you, isn't it? We have to have bears and we have to have bulls to drive the prices.

As for calling it 'right', for most blue chip companies, there will always be those who project a lower price when the price is falling. Sooner or later they may be correct, and they often move their price down as their target is reached. Similarly, on a rising price there will be those who project a higher price and move it up as that price is reached. The professional 'analysts' do this more often than not.

The thing about bears that some people feel is irksome is the rhetoric that confirms their faith e.g. when 'good' news emerges and the price does not react, they often say 'the news was in the price' or introduce another downbeat pessimistic conclusion. At least bulls appear to hold an optimistic view of the world, so I'd rather adopt this approach rather than the doom and gloom scenario ...... ;0).

From what I can see Monty has had it correct. There are quite a few blue sky holders on here who are letting their current position rule their thinking. I can easily foresee GSK going below 13.50 if the markets pull back - which they must at some point soon. He's at least polite in the face of some quite strong provocation - so give him a break guys. I would like to ask Monty - you've been bearish for a while here and your price target often reduces - which is fair if the market or circs change - your latest call is 13.95 but I would like to ask in all seriousness - at that level will you actually buy any shares? Also, you are negative on many stocks - are you at all positive on anything atm? I asked you this a year ago btw. I find you quite interesting - i always like a contrarian. I'd like to disagree with you though abt GSK being "like a bond" - I feel that the dividend is not nailed on beyond 2018. Debt is a big factor with this company and unless they come up with a big win in the laboratory i feel the dividend will be cut in line with the new policy... - ok guys thanks for reading, good luck and best wishes from Chiang Mai!

Me too EI! its unusual not to have a decent pullback at some point in the year maybe its coming this autumn.

Its interesting even though the ftse is near record highs many of the more defensive shares like gsk are well off their highs with a dozen yielding over 5%.

I suspect Finance and Tech more exposed. UK markets down today on a theory that a BJ resignation makes it easy for TM to betray on Brexit.

Bought another tranche of GSK to lump onto the long term holdings, a very happy buyer at just 1444p. Saved some in reserve for more buying if this isn't the bottom.

well my portfolio has seen a battering since Tuesday. Investing today seems to be
down to non company specifics and random news events anywhere else in the world. It feels more like gambling than ever where UK shares take a drubbing linked to any adverse news item worldwide. This week has been no exception and there has been events ranging from a hurricane in Cuba, a test missile somewhere in the pacific, currency movement and a fire in a bucket on a train has decimated my holding.
If the movement of my so called solid defensive shares is totally dependent on such things there seems little point in holding them because there will always be adverse news happening some place, somewhere in the world. Im now half expecting another random tweet by a nutter over the weekend which will send them spiralling again first thing on Monday. Maybe someone in the world will get out the bed wrong side and we
will see them crash completely.

Barnhart.com shows this at 100% sell funny how all the analysts are cutting the share price target. It may take a while for gsk to get their act together! It may take a while...gsk should cut the dividend and pay down its debt

So much for my blue finish - wishful thinking on my part. Just have to cry into my beer bought with the divi. Going to hold though. Come Spring next year, it'll come up smelling like roses again. FTSE trashed because BOE just might raise interest rates by 0.0000000001%. Exports have been doing a roaring trade with the £ depressed.

Monty, BT.A looks interesting, provided there is no further bad news,
would not get the farm on it by any means. If the UKX continues down
may be available lower.

Apologies off topic.
