Complete nonsense - we are extremely lucking to have deployed safe and effective vaccines to most people at risk of serious disease - I write as a retired Prof of Infectious Disease Epidemiology.

Basically if the guy has any supportive credentials, other than the ability to read and copy and paste, it would be in his/her best interest to discloses them now or be dismissed as a luddite loony and filtered accordingly!

I love the negativity from long term holders. The change in .good is palpable

This may be a contrarian signal to buy....or it could be a signal that major falls are on the way.
.or it may mean nothing at all.

Spud have not got a clue how it will benefit us in the short term......don’t think I’m very happy holding these at the moment but will hold on for now.

So how exactly is this split going to benefit shareholders over the short term. Not a trick question, just a genuinely baffled shareholder! (Aside from the Company guesstimate of £300 cost savings per annum). This surely is as a result of reduced dividend payments. spud

Warren Buffet comments as the self-made billionaire is now ranked fourth amongst the top billionaires globally, saying that dividends are the key to long-term growth with his own company making millions each year from Coca-Cola dividends.

More than the VIR treatment, is the Sanofi/GSK vaccine. Ok, it failed but only because of the mix, which should be fixable, and they wouldn't be continuing with it if it weren't. It was still a fuggup, though.

Just a question of time.

Interesting perspective Una, not dissimilar to myself although I still work part time. I’ve never been driven. Had a curry a few years ago with some close friends who are - I did better academically but they all wanted it more (ones a judge, another head of a european chemical distribution co and the other is a director at Pfizer). Needless to say all richer than me but not necessarily happier.

I sold out of here a while ago, decided I held too many value traps. I think the split costs are too high. Still on the watchlist though.

Yes pinning her hope on research finding news drugs. It's a gamble, don't mind when nice dividend, but being cut not so sure.

Not gambling her ranch. Gambling other people's money tbh. What the worst that can happen - it turns out to be a mistake and she walks away with £6m leaving compensation on top of the £20m she has earned since being in placeI would be happy with that gamble tbh

eaax - for me it's perspective. i'm nearly 50. i don't work or have any other source of income. i'm fundamentally lazy, like rab c "i don't want a job". my aim is to preserve capital and have an income. dividend stocks and invenstment trusts are my best option. if, in a low inflation environment such as we have now i could get 5% by leaving cash in the bank i would do it. that's not going to happen. i also need regular income, not the chance/hope that a stock might go up. so if i invest in companies that i believe will be around in ten years' time then i can take the share price falling and be 'paid to wait' for it to come back again. some stocks can grow and pay out as well, just you have to have a longer time horizon to view it. perspective.

You need a good dividend to minimise the pain of no growth.GSK shareprice below what it was 25 years ago. Now it's going to be cut, Walmsley is gambling the ranch on this split.

I’m still amazed at how many get fixated PI’s get with the dividend and ignore the complete picture. Surely investing is about maximising gain, and total gain means growth and income.

So many people think they are doing OK if their shares earn a 6% and completely disregard the share price movement. Where is the point holding that share which yields 6%, but the price drops 10%?

I’m still struggling to get my head around it, but maybe someone can explain it to me?

Anyway, good luck everybody, may all your shares be winners, Sid.

Yes, una, thanks for the article. Kind of reflects my views published here yesterday. Massive kudos for GSK and VIR, potential blockbuster there.
