15/10/2006 16:02 | CBM can be interesting in certain areas (in parts of australia they have made it work directly into power plant, i believe) but, in general, the low productivities (high initial "flush" then very long "tails") and thus high number of wells required tend to make them uneconomic even 'tho the gas resources can appear "staggering". The coal also has to be "the right sort of coal"; not being a specialist i havent come to grips with what the the right sort is but a lot of these projects fail if there is too much water in the coal interstices (where the methane is "stored"). Projects are surprisingly high risk (they were tried in the UK through a company called Evergreen in the '90's but never went anywhere). Do we know how gas is priced in China?
