Newspapers get sued from time to time for publishing false, malicious or defamatory stories. The so-called self-style " financial journalists" are more difficult to control. Social media tells facts as well as fiction. But if enough people believe in it whether it is true or false it will have an effect, whatever the case maybe (personal, corporate or political).

Anyway, the truth will prevail.

Company directors are not in the business of refuting rumours unless they are extremely serious, otherwise they will have no time to do their day to day jobs.

Investing is meant to be for the medium or long term. Short term punters worry about every movement.
